Or clinging to views, or clinging to superior views, or having clinging to discipline and asceticism. Four afflictions and anger, etc., regret, etc., and twenty-one. Whatever follows attachment, anger, pride, and doubt, among these four afflictions, that mind which corresponds to any one of the afflictions, without being mixed with that affliction, is said to be twenty, that is, twenty-one arise. As the near afflictions such as anger are spoken of, the mind corresponding to them becomes twenty-one with those twenty and the near affliction. Even if it corresponds to regret, it becomes twenty-one with regret itself. In short, the non-virtuous mind that is not mixed and corresponds to views is twenty. That which corresponds to afflictions and other near afflictions is twenty-one. Eighteen obscured. In the desire realm, the mind corresponding to the view of the perishable collection and the view of clinging to extremes is obscured and not specified. For this, there are ten omnipresent mental factors, six affliction omnipresent mental factors, and two, investigation and analysis, eighteen mental factors in total. Views are not specified as before. Unspecified. Others consider twelve. Other than the obscured and unspecified is the unobscured and unspecified. For this, there are ten omnipresent mental factors, and investigation and analysis, considered to be twelve mental factors in total. Sleep is not contrary to all, therefore, wherever it is, it is added to it. Sleep is not contrary to all the minds that are said to be virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified, therefore, it should be known that wherever it is, it is indicated by it. Wherever there are twenty-two, there are twenty-three. Wherever there are twenty-three, there are twenty-four, and so on. Whatever is thus definitely explained as arising from the mind of the desire realm, from these, regret, sleep, non-virtue, etc., are not in the first dhyana. In the first dhyana, from those that are spoken of, regret and sleep, and anything slightly non-virtuous, such as deceit and pride, except for anger, etc., and resentment.

Shamelessness and lack of embarrassment are completely absent. All others are the same. Those that are absent in the first dhyana, investigation is also absent in the special dhyana. The rest are the same. Above that, the conduct is also, from the special dhyana above, the second dhyana and so on, and in the formless realms, how they are prevented, examination, and the word "also" indicates that there is no deceit or trickery either. The rest are the same. In which grounds, how many mental events arise, these have been explained. Now, from the scriptures, I will explain what differences are said to be made among the mental events, what difference is there between shamelessness and lack of embarrassment? Disrespect is shamelessness. Disrespect towards qualities and those who possess qualities is shamelessness, it is the opposite of respect. Lack of embarrassment, not fearing misdeeds. What is called misdeeds are those that are condemned by the noble ones. Not fearing them is lack of embarrassment. What is the difference between loving-kindness and respect? Loving-kindness is of two kinds, afflicted and non-afflicted. Among them, the afflicted one is, for example, attachment to sons and wives, etc. The non-afflicted one is, for example, having faith in the teacher, the lama, and those who possess qualities. Respect is knowing shame. Respect is knowing shame as previously explained.

My mind and consciousness are the same in meaning. It is called mind because it accumulates, it is called thought because it contemplates, and it is called consciousness because it distinguishes. Just as mind, thought, and consciousness are different in name but the same in meaning, so too are mind and mental factors, the basis, the object, the form, and the correspondence, which are also the same in meaning. Mind and mental factors arise dependent on the senses, hence they are called the basis. Because they apprehend objects, they are also called the object. The object itself pervades all forms, hence it is also called the form. Because they correspond together, they are also called correspondence. In what form do they correspond? It is said that there are five forms: place, object, form, time, and substance are the same, because the five forms are the same. The extensive differences between mind and mental factors have been explained. Non-associated formations are: attainment and non-attainment, homogeneity, non-perception and meditative absorption, life force and characteristics, and aggregates of names, etc. These are formations, but they are not associated with the mind, nor are they the nature of form, hence they are called non-associated with the mind. Among these, attainment is obtaining and possessing. There are two types of attainment: non-attainment and obtaining due to deterioration, and possessing after obtaining. The opposite is established as non-attainment. To whom do attainment and non-attainment belong? Attainment and non-attainment belong to one's own continuum, not to the continuum of others, because there is no case of possessing with others. Those that do not belong to the continuum also do not have it, and there is also no case of possessing what is not counted as a sentient being. For the time being, the determination of conditioned phenomena is like this. The attainment and non-attainment of unconditioned phenomena are: the two cessations, non-discriminating cessation and all sentient beings possess it. Therefore, therefore, in the Abhidharma, if one asks who is associated with the unpolluted dharmas? The answer is, all sentient beings. Discriminating cessation and all those abiding in the first moment, except for those who are bound, the noble ones, and some ordinary people also possess it. What possesses space is
