Among those, any one can be transformed. If there is one who gradually dwells here, entering into meditation on the ninth path of liberation with the worldly path, then the fruit of non-return is obtained by the eight faculties, in the ninth path of liberation, it is the eighth faculty of joy. In the uninterrupted path, it is always the faculty of equanimity, thus it is obtained by two. If entering with the transcendental path, then it is obtained by nine faculties, the faculty of omniscience is the ninth. In the Abhidharma, if asked by how many faculties is the state of Arhat obtained? It is said: It is obtained by eleven faculties, this saying is definite. How is it said that it is obtained by nine faculties? It is indeed obtained by nine faculties, the Arhat is obtained by eleven, it is said because there is a possibility. Whoever is completely degenerated, obtains the fruit of Arhat by the faculties of pleasure, joy, and equanimity, it is said by eleven because there is this possibility, but pleasure and so on cannot exist at the same time. If one possesses which faculty, one will not die, it should be examined how many faculties one possesses, in this, equanimity and life, and with the mind, one definitely possesses three. Whoever possesses any one of these, such as equanimity, will not die, possessing those three themselves. If these are not present, then one does not possess them, but there are also those who possess the others, and there are also those who do not possess them, so it is not definite, in that, briefly speaking, those born in the formless realm do not possess the faculties of the eyes, ears, nose, and tongue. In the desire realm, it is those who have not obtained them and those who have degenerated. Those born in the formless realm do not possess the body faculty. Those born in the form and formless realms do not possess the female faculty. In the desire realm, it is those who have not obtained them and those who have degenerated, the male faculty is also the same. The ordinary being born in the fourth dhyana does not possess the pleasure faculty. The ordinary being born in the third dhyana does not possess the joy faculty. Those born in the formless realm do not possess the suffering faculty. In the desire

For those free from attachment, it is displeasure, etc. Those who have severed the roots of virtue are faith, etc. Ordinary beings and those abiding in the fruition do not possess the faculty of omniscience. The faculty of omniscience is associated with ordinary beings, those on the path of seeing, and those on the path of no more learning. Those who possess the faculty of omniscience are not associated with ordinary beings and those on the path of learning; in unprohibited situations, it should be understood that they possess it as described. Pleasure and body are four. Whoever possesses the faculty of pleasure necessarily possesses those three, and the faculty of pleasure, i.e., four faculties. Whoever possesses the faculty of body also possesses those three and the faculty of body, i.e., four faculties. Eye, etc., possess five. Whoever possesses the faculty of eye undoubtedly possesses it, and equanimity, life, mind, and body faculty, i.e., five. Likewise, it should also be understood for ear, nose, tongue, and body. Pleasantness is also the same. Whoever possesses the faculty of pleasantness undoubtedly possesses equanimity, life, mind, pleasure, and pleasantness, i.e., five. Suffering is seven. Those associated with faith, etc., are those five, and equanimity, life, and mind. The faculty of omniscience, the one possessing omniscience, is associated with eleven.
