For severance, there is no discipline, no five heinous crimes, no complete severing of the root of virtue, no obtaining of discipline and fruition, and no freedom from desire. The life faculty is for the connection of similar continuums and for the two, namely, truly grasping. The mind faculty is for connecting to rebirth and for mastery. Whatever the five faculties such as pleasure, and whatever the eight such as faith, these five and eight, for defilement and purification, act in order. The five such as pleasure are for defilement, because desire and so forth are its predispositions. Faith and so forth are for purification, because they purify. Other views are: one's own object and all objects, as objects of focus, are acted upon, therefore there are six faculties. The five, eye and so forth, act upon their respective objects as objects of focus. The mind acts upon all objects as objects of focus, therefore these six are each a faculty. To act upon maleness and femaleness themselves, on the body there are male and female faculties. The body faculty itself is established as male and female faculties, but there is no different meaning, only in the part of the body faculty, the part where the genitals are located, obtains the name of male and female faculties. These two act in turn on maleness itself and femaleness itself. Among them, the appearance, voice, behavior, and thought of a woman, for such a woman is femaleness itself. The appearance, voice, behavior, and thought of a man, for such a man is maleness itself. The same kind dwells in defilement itself, in order to act on purification, life, feeling, and faith and so forth, these five faculties are considered to be: the life faculty acts on those who dwell in the same continuum. Feelings are for defilement, for example, for the feeling of pleasure, desire increases; for suffering, anger; for neither suffering nor pleasure, ignorance, as stated in the sutra. The five, faith and so forth, are for purification, for example, they eliminate afflictions and also lead to the path, therefore

Also, each desires the powers. In order to obtain nirvana and so on. In order to have power from higher to higher. The all-knower, the all-knowing, and likewise the power of possessing all knowledge. The word "likewise" means that it is intended to indicate each and every power. Among them, the power that enables all-knowing has power over obtaining the power of all-knowing. The power of all-knowing is for obtaining the power of possessing all knowledge. The power of possessing all knowledge is for complete nirvana, because there is no complete nirvana for a mind that is not completely liberated. Furthermore, why did the Bhagavan say that those powers are neither more nor less than twenty-two? Because it is desired in this way: The support of the mind and their distinctions. Abiding and all afflictions themselves. Collections and complete purification, however many. The powers are also that many. Among them, the support of the mind is the six powers. The basis of the substance of sentient beings is also those six powers. That is, the two powers of male and female distinguish male and female. The power of life is for abiding. The feelings are for all afflictions. The five are for the collection of complete purification. The three are for complete purification. Therefore, the powers are that many. The support of entering and birth. Abiding and enjoyment. Fourteen or likewise, for reversal. The powers are other. The word "or" means that it is intended to distinguish and contemplate. Also, others say that the place of entering is the six powers. Birth is from the powers of male and female, because it is born from them. Abiding is the power of life, because it abides by it. Enjoyment is feeling. Therefore, those are the fourteen powers. In the same way, others are for reversal. The place of reversal is faith and so on. Utterly born is the power of enabling all-knowing. Abiding is the power of all-knowing. Enjoying is the power of possessing all knowledge. Therefore, the powers are that many, and their order is also like that. The meaning of the powers, and the necessity of explaining them as such, has been explained. Now
