Here, what is meant is that the object of eye consciousness just mentioned is all forms above, below, and belonging to oneself. The body is also both in all places. Just as the eye is extensively explained, so too should the ear be understood. For the body, there is no lower ear, nor can the sound from above be heard. Consciousness is also this sound. The body is both, and all places should be extensively combined. The three are all that belong to oneself. These are the realms of nose, tongue, and body. The body, its own object, and consciousness are all that belong to oneself. Having shown this generally without making distinctions, again, in order to make distinctions, a specific instruction is begun: The body's consciousness is below, and what is called one's own body is the body realm, and what is touched is always one's own. The body's consciousness, some is one's own, such as those born in the desire realm and the first dhyana. Some are in the lower realm, such as those born in the second dhyana and so on. The mind is uncertain, sometimes it becomes the mind corresponding to the body, mind, consciousness, and dharma. Sometimes it is the place above and below. For the body in the fifth place, during absorption and birth, the mind and so on become all places as appropriate. These will be extensively explained in the treasury of the place where absorption is shown. Furthermore, among those eighteen realms, which one is known by which of the six consciousnesses? Answer: The five external objects are known by two. The realms of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch are experienced in order by the consciousnesses of eye, ear, nose, nose, tongue, and body, and are known by mind consciousness. In this way, for each of them, it also becomes known by two consciousnesses. The remaining thirteen realms, because they are not the objects of the five consciousnesses, will be shown to be known only by mind consciousness. How many are constant? How many are impermanent? Among all the realms, there is nothing constant, but.

Unconditioned dharmas are permanent. Therefore, one part of the dharma realm is permanent, and the rest are impermanent. What are the faculties? What are not the faculties? Half of the dharmas and which are the faculties spoken of in the twelve ayatanas. In the sutra, it is said that there are twenty-two faculties, from the eye and so on up to the faculty of possessing all knowledge. Among them, the eleven faculties such as the faculty of life, and the part of the three, are half of the dharmas because they are part of the dharma realm. Among the twelve internal ayatanas such as the eye, the five that are spoken of by their own names, and the seven consciousness realms are the mind faculty. The faculties of male and female are part of the body, which will be explained below. The remaining five realms, and the part of the dharma realm, are established as non-faculties. The commentary on the Abhidharma-kosa, which is in accordance with the sutra, is called "Discernment of Things," and is the first chapter of the Abhidharma-kosa. When showing the faculties, what is the meaning of faculty? It is the meaning of being able to dominate. Again, what do these dominate over what? The five dominate over four things. Briefly, the two, eye and ear, dominate over four things, namely, the blind and the deaf, to make the body beautiful because the form is not beautiful, and to completely protect the body by completely abandoning contempt when seeing and hearing, and to generate the two kinds of consciousness of eye and ear, possessing equality, and also to be the uncommon cause for seeing forms and pleasant sounds. Nose, tongue, and body do not possess this, and are not complete, namely, to make the body beautiful because the form is not beautiful, and to completely protect the body by enjoying coarse food, and to generate the consciousnesses of nose and so on, possessing equality, and also to be the uncommon cause for smelling scents, tasting flavors, and touching tangibles. The four dominate over two things. The male and female, life, and mind faculties, each dominate over two things. Briefly, the two faculties of male and female dominate over affliction and purification, namely, in this way, for those who do not possess and are not complete, such as hermaphrodites, etc.
