That division. Because it is in accordance with enlightenment, it is called the thirty-seven divisions of enlightenment. From the perspective of names, there are ten entities. The divisions of enlightenment are ten entities. What are the ten? Faith, diligence, mindfulness, wisdom, samadhi, joy, equanimity, and complete perfection of thorough pliancy. Thus, these are the ten entities. How so? Mindfulness is close abiding, which is wisdom; diligence is right exertion, as it is said; the miraculous feet are samadhi. Mindfulness, close abiding, right abandonment, and the miraculous feet are of the nature of wisdom, diligence, and samadhi. Therefore, for the time being, the faculties and powers are named, and they are the five entities of faith, diligence, mindfulness, wisdom, and samadhi. Mindfulness, close abiding, and the discriminating awareness of dharma, the right enlightenment branch, and right view are wisdom itself. Right abandonment and the diligence right enlightenment branch, and right effort are diligence itself. The miraculous feet and the samadhi right enlightenment branch, and right samadhi are right samadhi itself. Mindfulness right enlightenment branch and right mindfulness are mindfulness itself. What remains? Joy and thorough pliancy and equanimity, the right enlightenment branches, and right thought, and the branches of discipline, these five entities. Thus, those divisions of enlightenment become ten entities. The Vaibhashikas say that because the actions of body and speech are different, the branches of discipline are two entities, so there are eleven. Mindfulness, close abiding, and so on, are of the nature of wisdom, diligence, and samadhi. What is said is that here, the main thing is mentioned, and those are to be known as all the qualities arising from practice. Because the main thing is mentioned, it is said that mindfulness, close abiding, right abandonment, and the miraculous feet are all the qualities arising from practice. In what situations are the divisions of enlightenment...

If one wishes to increase these limbs, then the seven parts are in order: action is the initial self, the conforming aspects of decisive distinction, seeing and cultivating can increase them. In the initial stage of action, in order to observe the aggregates and so on, mindfulness can be increased. Because of obtaining excellence, in order to increase diligence, in the warmth stage, right exertion can be increased. In order to enter the roots of virtue that will not completely decline, in the peak stage, the bases of miraculous power can be increased. Again, in a way that will not decline, in order to obtain mastery, in the forbearance stage, the faculties can be increased. In order not to be overcome by afflictions, or not to be shaken by worldly dharmas, in the forbearance stage, the powers can be increased. In order to approach enlightenment, on the path of cultivation, the limbs of enlightenment can be increased. Because the path is thoroughly distinguished by practice, on the path of seeing, the limbs of the path can be increased, because it is a quick path. In order to match the number, seven were mentioned earlier, and then eight were mentioned later, so the order is established. Now, which part of enlightenment is with outflows? Which part is without outflows? The limbs of enlightenment and the limbs of the path are without outflows. Because these two are established on the path of cultivation and the path of seeing. Worldly people also have correct views, but those do not obtain the name called the noble path. Two others. The other limbs of enlightenment are both with outflows and without outflows. In which grounds are how many limbs of enlightenment? All are in the first dhyana. In the first dhyana, there are all thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. In the immediate path, there is no joy. Why is there no joy in the immediate path? Because the near-attainment and so on must be guided into by force, and because the lower ground is needed. In the second dhyana, except for right thought. In the second dhyana, there are only thirty-six, except for right thought, because there is no thought there. In the second, except for those two.
