Because there is no hearing in the upper realms, and no focus in the lower realms. In the realm of form, because there is no birth, and because of making effort here, the scriptures say that one reaches the end there. Those who practice in the realm of form are attached to the bliss of meditative absorption and do not experience suffering, so they do not become weary. Without weariness, one cannot attain the noble path; for the time being, this is reasonable. The scriptures also say that the five types of beings in the intermediate state who completely pass into nirvana and are reborn upwards will reach the end by making effort here, and making effort means the method of nirvana, so it is making effort on the path. If someone says, 'If one is of the nature of non-regression, then from the wisdom of cessation, the wisdom of non-arising will arise,' then are there also distinctions among arhats? The answer is: yes. There are six types of arhats. The sutras say that there are six types of arhats: arhat who can fall from attainment, arhat who is mindful of death, arhat who is protected by the Dharma, arhat who abides without wavering, arhat who is capable of realization, and arhat who is of the nature of non-regression. Among them, five arise from faith and aspiration. The other five, except for the arhat of non-regression, arise from the cause of faith and aspiration. Their liberation is associated with time. These five are associated with time, and because of constant protection, the mind of joy should be known as liberation, therefore they are called liberated by time. They are both dependent on time and liberated, so they are liberated by time. In order not to hide the intermediate words, it is like a jar of ghee. They are dependent on time because they depend on resources, freedom from illness, and the differences of time, and they can manifest samadhi. The one of non-regression is unmoving. The one of non-regression is liberated and unmoving because it cannot arise from the aspect of complete non-regression. Therefore, he is liberated without being associated with time. Therefore, he is called liberated without time, because he can manifest samadhi at will.

Moreover, it is liberated without depending on time. Because of liberation between other times, and eternal liberation, therefore liberation through time, or liberation without conjunction with time. Because complete degeneration is possible and impossible, therefore liberation through time, and liberation without conjunction with time. That arises from the cause of attainment through seeing. It should be known that the immutable nature arises from the cause of attainment through seeing. If those six Arhats were of that type from the beginning, or if they later became of that type? Some are of that type from the beginning. Some change through practice. Some are of the type who think of death from the beginning. Some become of the nature of complete degeneration, and through training the senses, become of the nature of thinking of death. Likewise, it should be known until becoming of the immutable nature. Among them, the nature of complete degeneration refers to those who have the potential to completely degenerate. The nature of thinking of death refers to those who have the potential to think of death. The nature of subsequent protection refers to those who have the potential to be subsequently protected. Not moving from abiding means that if there is no power of the cause of complete degeneration, even if not subsequently protected, it will not abide and degenerate, and if there is no diligence, it will not increase, which refers to those who have this potential. Having the potential for realization refers to those who have the potential to realize the liberation of the immutable mind. The immutable nature refers to those who do not have the potential for complete degeneration. The first two are those who do not continuously practice and respectfully practice in the stage of previous learning. The third is continuous practice. The fourth is respectful practice. The fifth is both practice and dull faculties. The sixth is both practice and sharp faculties. Even the nature of complete degeneration is not necessarily completely degenerate, and even those who have the potential for realization will not necessarily realize it, but because there is this possibility, it is said so.
