The gross mistake is produced earlier, and the subtle mistake is produced later; great darkness is dispelled by a small lamp, and subtle darkness is dispelled by a large lamp, just like that. Among those nine forms of afflictions, in all cases, those who have not abandoned what should be abandoned through meditation, like a solitary one, cling to existence seven times. Those who abide in the fruit, and have not abandoned even one form of affliction that should be abandoned through meditation, are stream-enterers, and in seven lifetimes they experience existence seven times from samsara. Not all stream-enterers are those who have existence seven times, therefore, saying "like a solitary one, clinging," this refers to the worst. The continuum of nirvana is the path. After that, in order to go there, entering, coming, or going there is a stream-enterer. The Vaibhashikas say that it is seven existences of birth other than that, and seven intermediate existences, connecting the continuum among humans, and similarly connecting the continuum among gods, so that the continuum is connected in twenty-eight existences. Because it is a general term for seven existences, it is said, "like a solitary one, clinging, is seven existences," just like saying "skilled in seven places" and "seven-leaved tree." In short, in this way, abiding in the fruit, what should be abandoned through meditation but has not been abandoned is like a solitary one, clinging, is seven existences. Liberated from three or two, in two or three lives, from lineage to lineage. The stream-enterer himself, because of three reasons, is born from lineage to lineage: from the abandonment of afflictions, because three or four forms have been abandoned; from the faculty, because its antidote, the undefiled faculty, has been obtained; from birth, because only one or two lives remain. When explaining the verses, two are mentioned internally, that is, the stream-enterer later abandons afflictions, and obtains its antidote, the undefiled faculty, even if it is not mentioned, it is already established. Being born from lineage to lineage refers to being born from the lineage of gods to the lineage, and from the lineage of humans to the lineage. Among them, being born from the lineage of gods to the lineage refers to becoming the lineage of gods after experiencing two or three lineages among the gods.
