Because of cessation, and because forbearance and so on are the retinue of wisdom, just as the retinue of a king is called a king. All the uninterrupted fruits, etc. Five or eight of the meditations. According to the Vaibhashika school, the actual fruit of meditation is five kinds of complete knowledge, namely, whatever is the nature of abandoning the afflictions that operate in the form and formless realms. Abandoning the afflictions that operate in the desire realm is the uninterrupted fruit. According to the Venerable Sound Increaser's school, there are eight, because even though one is free from desire, one still obtains the attainment of non-outflow, so abandoning the things to be abandoned by sight that operate in the desire realm is considered the fruit of the path of seeing. The complete knowledge of abandoning that which is in accordance with the final part is the uninterrupted fruit itself. Special meditation should also be regarded as meditation. Of the formless realms, one of the approximations, the fruit of the approximation of the sphere of infinite space is only one, namely, the complete knowledge of being free from desire for form. Also of the three formless realities, the fruit of the three formless realities is also one, namely, the complete knowledge of completely exhausting all connections. All of the noble path, there are nine complete knowledges of the fruit altogether. Two of the mundane, the fruit of the mundane path is two, namely, that which is in accordance with the final part and the complete knowledge of the exhaustion of desire for form. Also of the subsequent, the fruit of subsequent knowledge is also the last two complete knowledges. There are three of Dharma knowledge, namely, the last one, because it is the antidote to the things to be abandoned by cultivation in the three realms. Its retinue has six and five, the fruit of the Dharma knowledge retinue is six complete knowledges, namely, whichever of Dharma forbearance and Dharma wisdom. There are five of the subsequent knowledge retinue, namely, whichever of subsequent forbearance and subsequent wisdom. By mentioning the retinue, it includes forbearance and wisdom. Why are the complete knowledges not separately established for each abandonment? Like this...

Regarding the complete establishment of forbearance as a result, it is the attainment of stainless detachment and the destruction of the peak of existence. Completely destroying the two causes. Complete knowledge. Whoever possesses these three causes is said to have complete knowledge of abandonment. For ordinary individuals, there is no attainment of stainless detachment, nor is there the destruction of the peak of existence. Therefore, they do not obtain the name of complete knowledge of abandonment. As for the noble ones, what is the result of forbearance that is abandonment? As long as they possess the forbearance of knowing suffering, they have the attainment of stainless detachment, but they have not destroyed the peak of existence. Although they both have the knowledge of suffering, they have not completely destroyed the two causes because they have not abandoned the cause of pervasive affliction that is to be abandoned by seeing arising. For other dharmas and subsequent knowledge, they possess all three, and therefore, they obtain the name of complete knowledge of abandonment in those respective states. The result of knowledge that is abandonment is also similar. Therefore, due to the three causes, they also obtain the name of complete knowledge. As for the fourth, it is because of transcending the realm. When does one truly transcend the realm? It is because of being free from attachment to all realms. How many complete knowledges does one possess? Those abiding in seeing do not possess one, but possess up to five. For the time being, ordinary individuals do not possess any. Noble ones abiding on the path of seeing also do not possess it as long as they abide in the forbearance of knowing the dharma of arising. Knowing the dharma of arising, they possess one. Knowing subsequently arising, they possess two. Knowing the dharma of cessation, they possess three. Knowing subsequently cessation, they possess four. Knowing the dharma of the path, they possess five. Abiding in meditation, either six, one, or two. Noble individuals who have subsequent knowledge on the path of meditation possess six complete knowledges as long as they have not attained detachment from desire or have completely fallen away from it. If they have previously or subsequently attained detachment from desire, they possess one, which is the complete knowledge of abandonment that is in accordance with the final part. If they have attained the state of an Arhat,

Having one, which is the very understanding and object of all pervasive connections being fully attained. If one is completely deteriorated by the pervasive entanglement of conduct in form, one still has one, which is the very understanding and object of abandoning conformity with the lower division. If one obtains freedom from desire for form, then one has two. That is, abandoning conformity with the lower division, and the understanding and object of the exhaustion of desire for form. If one is completely deteriorated by the pervasive entanglement of conduct in the formless, then one has those two. Why is it that even for a non-returner and an Arhat, only one understanding is established, and not many? Because of what? Because of detachment from desire for the realm, and because of obtaining the fruit, those are combined. Detachment from desire for the realm, and obtaining the fruit, the understandings are combined by these two causes, and established as one, because in those two situations, both of these are possible, therefore. All abandonments are combined and called one understanding. Furthermore, who abandons or obtains how many understandings? Some abandon one, two, five, and six, but obtaining five is not possible. If it is an Arhat himself, or if one completely deteriorates from detachment from desire for the desire realm, then one abandons one. A non-returner, one who is detached from desire for the form realm, if one completely deteriorates from detachment from desire for the desire realm, then one abandons two understandings. If the path is subsequent knowledge, and one was previously detached from desire, then one abandons five, that is, if one obtains the understanding of abandoning conformity with the lower division, then one abandons the previous five understandings. If one gradually becomes detached from desire from the desire realm, then one abandons six understandings. Similarly, obtaining is also, some obtain one understanding, that is, whoever obtains what was not previously obtained. Some obtain two, that is, one who completely deteriorates from detachment from desire for the formless realm. Some obtain six, that is, whoever completely deteriorates from the fruit of non-returning. There is no one who obtains five. The commentary on the Abhidharma-kosa, called "Detailed Exposition," which is in accordance with the Sutra Pitaka, is the fifth chapter of the Kosa. As it is said, abandonment obtains the name of understanding.
