in between. Also, it is the same as between the four dhyanas. In this way, all the grounds are made to be in agreement. If you ask, how is it that it is up to the perfection of increase? The answer is: like this, from a small meditation one enters into a medium one, and from a medium one into a large one. The peak of increase is the perfection of increase. Such a meditation as this is the ultimate limit, because it has a final perfection. Here, the limit is increase or form, just like the four extremes. Those six qualities are also born from effort other than the Buddha. Those other than the Buddha are born from effort, but are not obtained by being free from desire. The Buddha's are not born from effort at all, because he is a lord with desire. The manifestation of all his perfect qualities depends only on his wishes. For the time being, those are the qualities of the Shravakas and the common ones. The superknowledges and so on are also common with ordinary beings. What is this called superknowledge? Magical power, ear, mind, former lives, death and birth, and the knowledge of exhaustion to be manifested, there are six kinds of superknowledge. Superknowledge for manifesting the knowledge of the realm of magical power,

It should also be known that here, this is all the grounds. Furthermore, the five superknowledges are in the four dhyanas, the five superknowledges are the grounds of the four dhyanas. Why are there no formless grounds? For the time being, three are not present because they are focused on form. Clairvoyance of others' minds is also not present because it must be accomplished by relying on form. Recollection of past lives is also not present because it is ultimately accomplished by recollecting other past lives, and because it is focused on places and lineages, etc. Wanting to know the minds of others, one thinks, 'From a body like mine, the mind is like this,' thus grasping the characteristics of body and mind, and similarly applying them to others, one accomplishes it through knowing the mind. If superknowledge is accomplished, then one knows without relying on form. Wanting to recollect past lives, one grasps the characteristics of the immediately ceased consciousness of mind, and reversing from that process, one considers the other immediate states between the connecting mind. Then, even if one remembers a single instant of the intermediate state, it is considered accomplished. Similarly, one can also remember others. Once accomplished, one can also remember suddenly. One only remembers what one has previously experienced. How does one remember the Pure Abodes? Because one has experienced them through hearing. When one dies from the formless realm and is born here, one arises relying on the continuum of others. Others arise relying on their own continuum. The practice of magical powers, etc., is lightness, sound, and appearance. These five superknowledges have objects that are their own and lower grounds. Whichever is the superknowledge of magical power, one can go to that ground or a lower one, or manifest, but not to a higher one. Similarly, the superknowledge of the divine ear can only hear sounds of its own ground or a lower ground, but not of a higher ground. The superknowledge of the minds of others also cannot know the minds of a higher ground. The recollection of past lives also cannot remember. The superknowledge of death and birth also cannot see.
