In the third and fourth dhyanas, there are thirty-five (mental factors) excluding joy and investigation. In the intermediate dhyana, there are only thirty-five (mental factors) excluding those two. In the three formless realms, it is the same, adding the word "excluding." In the formless realms, there are thirty-two (mental factors) excluding right speech, action, livelihood, joy, and investigation. Bodhi and the limbs of the path, except for the peak of existence in the desire realm. Those two (joy and investigation) are absent because there is no undefiled path, so there are twenty-two that are in accordance with the limbs of bodhi. If one wants to know in what state one can attain faith by abiding in those that are in accordance with the limbs of bodhi, then, if one sees the three truths, one can attain discipline and faith in the Dharma. If one directly realizes the path, one can also attain faith in the Buddha and his Sangha. If one directly realizes the truths of suffering, origin, and cessation, one can attain faith in the Dharma and the discipline pleasing to the noble ones. If one directly realizes the truth of the path, one can attain faith in the Buddha and his Shravaka Sangha. Whoever has faith in those two has faith in the non-learning dharmas that make one a Buddha, and in the learning and non-learning dharmas that make one a Sangha. Moreover, the word "also" shows that one can also attain discipline and faith in the Dharma. Here, what is considered Dharma? Dharma is the three truths and the solitary Buddha, and the path of the Bodhisattva. Therefore, if one directly realizes all four truths, one can attain faith in the Dharma. Those are called the four faiths arising from understanding, from the perspective of names, based on the distinctions of the basis of faith. Substantially, there are two, namely faith and discipline. Faith arising from understanding of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, etc., is the nature of faith. The discipline pleasing to the noble ones, etc., is discipline, so there are two substances. Are these defiled or undefiled? Faith arising from understanding, in general, is immaculate. What is the meaning of faith arising from understanding? Trusting after realizing the truths as they truly are is faith arising from understanding. The order of these starts from...

It is arranged just as it appears. If you ask, how does it appear when you stand up? Alas! The Bhagavan is the truly perfect Buddha. His Dharma and Vinaya are well spoken. His Shravaka Sangha is well entered, thus it appears, because it is like a doctor and medicine and a sick attendant. The discipline made with an extremely joyful mind is also extremely joyful, therefore the fourth is said at the end, because this is a practice that is so extremely joyful. Or it is like being without disease. Or it is like a guide, a path, a companion, and a vehicle. The sutra says that the learner has eight branches, and the non-learner has ten branches. Why is it that the learner does not speak of true liberation and true knowledge? Because it is bound, liberation is not spoken of in the branch of the learner. The learner is still bound by the bonds of affliction, so how can it be established as liberation while being bound? It cannot be called liberation by being liberated from only one aspect of bondage. Without liberation, how can the wisdom of liberation be established? The non-learner is definitely liberated forever from all the bonds of affliction, therefore it is liberation, and it is completely distinguished by their own wisdom, so it is reasonable to say that only to that. What is called liberation? There are two types: conditioned and unconditioned. Among them, the destruction of affliction is unconditioned. Faith is conditioned, and abandoning affliction is liberation unconditioned. The faith of the non-learner is liberation conditioned. The branch is that. Liberation conditioned, that is said to be the branch of the non-learner, because the branches are all conditioned. That itself is two liberations. Liberation conditioned itself, the sutra says, mind liberation and wisdom liberation, two liberations are spoken of, that itself is also considered to be the aggregate of liberation. Others say that the sutra says, sons of the Bodhi of the Tiger, completely pure liberation.
