Because for whatever is its antidote, that affliction will not increase either. There are two kinds from others. From all the grounds other than the peak of existence, one can be free from desire with the worldly path, and one can also be free from desire with the supramundane path. The worldly one has two kinds of attainment of freedom from desire for the noble ones. When a noble one becomes free from desire through the worldly path, there arise two kinds of attainment of freedom from desire: the worldly and the supramundane. Some say that the supramundane is also the same. Others say that the supramundane is also the same as that. Why? Because upon abandoning, one does not possess afflictions. If one obtains freedom from desire through the noble path, and the worldly attainment of freedom from desire does not arise, then when one arises from the sphere of nothingness with the noble path, relying on meditation and transferring the faculties, that is because one has abandoned the previous path, and because one only obtains the fruition path, one will also not possess the freedom from desire of the afflictions of the higher ground, and even if one abandons it, one will also possess those afflictions. From the half-liberation of the peak of existence, one does not possess it as if born higher up. In this case, even if there is no worldly attainment of freedom from desire, one will not possess those afflictions, for example, in the half-liberation of the peak of existence, there is neither the worldly attainment of freedom from desire, nor does the supramundane, through the transference of faculties, possess those afflictions as if abandoned, and again, for example, when an ordinary being is born up to the first dhyana, having abandoned the attainment of freedom from desire from the afflictions of the desire realm, one will not possess those afflictions again, therefore this is not something to be understood. Which ground is free from desire from what? The uncontaminated, invincible one is free from desire from everything, up to the peak of existence. Furthermore, if someone relies on proximity and obtains freedom from desire from a lower ground, why do all paths of liberation arise from proximity like the uninterrupted path? The answer is: No. Then what is it like? The three grounds are victorious.
