Obtaining cessation, that is, the non-returner obtains cessation, because they manifest with a Dharma body similar to nirvana, therefore it is called obtaining manifestation by body. How does one manifest by body? Because one is without mind, relying on the body to arise. It will become like this, that he arises from that cessation, from where does he arise? He will think like this, alas, the samadhi of cessation is peaceful, similar to nirvana, the body with consciousness obtains the peace that was not previously obtained. Thus, he manifests its peace by body, what is manifested by obtaining and knowing is the manifestation. In the sutra it is said that there are eighteen types of learners, why is manifestation by body not mentioned? Because there is no cause. What cause is there? That is, the three trainings without outflows and their fruit, the learners are established by its difference. The samadhi of cessation is neither a learner nor the fruit of a learner, therefore, the difference of learners is not mentioned with respect to it. This is temporarily a rough classification of non-returners. If classified in detail, there are thousands of classifications. Those who completely pass into nirvana in the intermediate state have the difference of dull faculties, medium faculties, and sharp faculties, there are three in total. These themselves have four types due to the difference of grounds. There are six types due to the difference of lineages such as those with the nature of complete decay. There are sixteen types due to the difference of different places. There are thirty-six types due to the difference of ground and detachment from desire, from having all the bonds of the form realm, to detachment from desire from the eight aspects of the fourth dhyana. There are two thousand five hundred and eighty-two types due to the difference of different places, different lineages, detachment from desire, and different faculties. How is it calculated? There are six lineages in one place. Each lineage has nine types of individuals from having all the bonds, to detachment from desire from the eight aspects of their own place, nine sixes are fifty-four. Fifty-four multiplied by sixteen places is eight hundred.

Sixty-four. Furthermore, it is tripled due to the difference in faculties. That's how it's done. For the sake of similar play, whichever of the nine aspects of the lower meditation is free from desire, that is said to possess all the bonds of the higher realms. Just as complete nirvana is attained in the intermediate state, it is the same in the interval of upward transference. If all are added together, there are twelve thousand nine hundred and sixty non-returners. The eight intervening states of the peak of existence are exhausted, which is to enter into Arhatship. This is spoken of in terms of what is called a non-returner. Furthermore, the non-returner, starting from being free from desire in one aspect of the first dhyana, up to abandoning the eight aspects of the peak of existence, is entering into Arhatship. Also, the uninterrupted path of the ninth, when abiding on the uninterrupted path that eliminates the ninth aspect of the peak of existence, is solely entering into Arhatship. That is like a vajra. Because the uninterrupted path destroys all subtle increases, it is called vajra-like samadhi. It is not that this destroys everything because it has already destroyed, but because it is the most excellent among all uninterrupted paths, it is capable of destroying everything. The distinctions of vajra-like ones are spoken of in many ways. Gathered by the invincible, focusing on the suffering and origin of the peak of existence, there are eight that are in accordance with the aspects of knowing suffering and origin, and eight that are in accordance with the aspects of the Dharma-knowledge of cessation and path, and there are those that are in accordance with the aspects of knowing cessation, from the four that focus on the cessation of the first dhyana, up to the four that likewise focus on the cessation of the peak of existence, and there are four that are in accordance with the aspects of knowing the path, being in accord with the side of knowing, because they focus on exhaustion. Those are different because of the difference in the object of knowledge and the aspect, therefore there are fifty-two vajra-like ones. Just as gathered by the invincible, it is the same up to those gathered by the four dhyanas. Space and limitless consciousness
