It should also be given to other sons. If someone is free from desire from the third dhyana, and relies on the lower ground to definitely enter, then he will undoubtedly manifest the path of special fruit. If not, then what arose before it will not have the proof of happiness. For the time being, most of those who are free from desire from karma and desire, the establishment of the person who will definitely enter is like this. Next, the gradual entry will be described, so for the time being, this should be established. Just as the nine types of afflictions of the desire realm are shown, there are nine kinds of faults in the ground and the ground, up to the peak of existence. How are the faults established, and the merits are the same, the ground and the ground have its antidote, called the uninterrupted path and the liberation path, and the merits are also nine and nine. How is it done? Because of the difference between small, medium, and large, etc. There are three basic types: small, medium, and large. Each of these is also divided into three types: small, medium, and large, so they are established as nine types: the smallest of the small, the medium of the small, the largest of the small, the smallest of the medium, the medium of the medium, the largest of the medium, the smallest of the large, the medium of the large, and the largest of the large. Among them, the smallest of the small path can cut off the largest of the great afflictions, and similarly, the largest of the great path can cut off the smallest of the small afflictions, because it is impossible to have a great path at the beginning, and there can be no great afflictions when the great path arises. Just like washing large stains on clothes first and small stains later; dispelling large darkness with weak light and eliminating subtle darkness with strong light, this is a metaphor. Even a small moment of the noble path can eradicate the great afflictions that have been continuously increasing from beginningless samsara, so white dharmas have great power, while black dharmas have little power, just like the faults accumulated over a long period of time can be eliminated by one pill.

Just like that, a tiny instant of lamplight can dispel great darkness. Thus, for all those nine kinds of afflictions, not only should the practice be abandoned in the state of fruition, but also if one follows desire, there will be seven times. One who abides in the fruit, if he has not abandoned even one affliction that should be abandoned through practice, then he is a stream-enterer, because he will be reborn in seven lifetimes, so he is called "seven times if he follows desire." Because it is not seven times in all cases, the word "if he follows desire" is the worst of all cases. The sutra says, "If it reaches the extreme, there will be seven times," which means that if it reaches the extreme, there will be seven rebirths. The word "extreme" means "very." The stream of nirvana is the path, therefore it is to go there. This is because he has entered and reached there, so he is a stream-enterer. How does one enter? If it is said that it is to obtain the path and power, then it will also become the eighth. If it is said that it is to obtain the first fruit, then he will also be separated from the desires of ordinary people, and he will also be separated from desires. Assuming that all fruits are obtained, then it is to obtain the first fruit. Why is it only that, and not the eighth? Because for the following of the path, it is to obtain the path of stream-entry and fruition, and to obtain the path of seeing and practicing, and to realize all streams. The Vaibhashikas say that he is the one who connects between the seven existences and the seven intermediate existences that are born from that other, connecting among humans, just as he connects among the gods. In this way, he connects between twenty-eight existences. Because the seven existences are similar, it is said that "if it reaches the extreme, there will be seven times," just like "skilled in seven places" and "seven leaves." Then, what about what the sutra says: "If a person possesses perfect views and is able to accomplish the eighth existence, that is not a place and there is no opportunity, this is not a place"? This refers to one destination. Or, if analyzed according to the literal meaning, then
