It is also realized by it, just as it is the sphere of the mind. Moreover, since it is said from "seeing" to "touching," it is indeed not objectionable. Whatever wanders from not seeing to not touching is also the wandering of the mind. Otherwise, those in the desire realm that focus on the form realm would not become the sphere of form, etc., and those in the form realm that focus on the desire realm would not become the sphere of smell, taste, and touch. As it is said most clearly, those who wander from seeing forms to sounds are also the wandering of the mind, but it is said in such a way that they are not confused from the perspective of the complete separation of the senses and objects. Is color only a place of mental pleasure, or even only a place of equanimity? If you ask this, it is so in terms of the continuity of the stream of consciousness, but not in terms of the object. Again, how many of these spheres of mind are associated with the desire realm? And what are the objects of how many of them? Similarly, should we speak of those associated with the formless realm? It is said: All desires are self-objective. In the desire realm, there are all eighteen, and the object of all of them is also that. Of those themselves: The sphere of activity is twelve forms. The form realm is the object of twelve. Except for the six that wander on smell and taste, because if that were the case, those two would not exist.

Those are their nature. That is the object of the eight mental proximities, except for the four proximities on smell and taste. The two formless ones are the objects of the proximities on Dharma, etc. There are six in the second dhyana. In the third and fourth dhyanas, there are only six proximities of equanimity; there are no others. The object of those six is desire. The desire realm is also the object of all six. Of one's own four, the form realm is four, because there is no smell or taste there. It is the object of the one above. The formless realm is the object of only one proximity on Dharma. Those with form have been explained. Now, those associated with the formless will be discussed. If one approximates the formless, there are four. Approximating the formless refers to the approximation of the sphere of infinite space here. There, there are the four proximities on form, sound, touch, and Dharma. Those are also form and sound. The object of those is the fourth dhyana. According to some views, that is focused on cessation. According to some views, those are aggregates, and according to those views of the objects, there is only one proximity on Dharma that is focused on mixture. Going up one. There, the object of the formless realm is only one, which is the proximity on Dharma. One in the main body. In the main body of the formless realm, there is only one proximity on Dharma; there are no others. That is also, the self-object. It is only focused on the formless realm. The objects of the main bodies of the formless realm, etc., are not some, as will be explained below. Those mental proximities are also all eighteen are with outflows. There are none without outflows. Who is associated with which? One born in the desire realm who has not obtained the virtuous mind that practices in the form realm is associated with all those who practice in the desire realm. The grounds of the first and second dhyanas are associated with eight defilements each, except for those focused on smell and taste. The grounds of the third and fourth dhyanas are associated with four each. Those who practice in the formless are defilements.

It has only one aspect. Those who practice in the form realm and obtain a virtuous mind but are not free from desire possess all practices in the desire realm. The first dhyana ground has ten: four afflictive pleasant proximities, except those that focus on smell and taste, and six equanimous proximities of the unobstructed ground. The second, third, and fourth dhyanas, as well as those born from the formless realm, are the same as before. In this way, the rest should also be understood. Those born in dhyana should be known to have one that is similar to the mind of a snake, which is the equanimity dharma proximity of practice in the desire realm. Others say that although there are distinctions in the proximity of the mind, such as those made by the Vibhajyavādins, the meaning of the sutra appears to be different. Whoever is free from desire from something is not aware of the proximity to that object. Therefore, all those with outflows, such as pleasantness, are not proximities. What then? They are all afflictions, which cause the mind to approach objects. How do they approach? They become attached to them. Non-discrimination is also equanimity, and for those who always have six states in which antidotes are present, that is, when the eye sees forms, it does not become pleasant or unpleasant, but remains in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness, from this point until the mind knows all dharmas, as it is said. Even an arhat has pleasantness that does not take worldly virtuous dharmas as its object, so it is clear that this is not to negate the proximity of the mind of all afflictions. It is also said that pleasantness and so on themselves become thirty-six kinds due to the difference of relying on attachment and relying on renunciation, because the Buddha taught their differences. Among them, those that rely on attachment are afflictive, and those that rely on renunciation are virtuous. Thus, feelings and so on.
