It is a place of many (ཉོན་མོངས་པའི་ས་མང་པོ་པ་, place of many afflictions). Those that exist only in those with afflictions are the place of many afflictions. Others say that those exist in different ways according to circumstances, but not all at once. The place of many unwholesome things is quoted from there when it is brought out, but it has not been shown before. If it is said that feeling arises after contact, then it is necessary to answer the sutra which says that depending on the eye and form, eye consciousness arises, the contact of the three combined, and the feeling, perception, and attention that arise simultaneously. It is said to arise simultaneously. If it is not said that contact and simultaneous arising, then what is there to answer to this? The word simultaneous is also seen immediately after, for example, cultivating mindfulness that arises simultaneously with love, like this cannot be used as a basis. Then, how should we quote what is said in the sutra that the dharmas of what is feeling, what is attention, what is perception, and what is consciousness are mixed and not unmixed? Therefore, there is no unmixed consciousness in feeling and so on. For a while, we should examine what the meaning of mixing is, and in that very sutra it says: Whatever is felt is attended to. Whatever is attended to is gathered and known. Whatever is gathered and known is discriminated. It is said like this, then, is it said that these are determined by the object? Or is it determined by the moment, that is not known. Because the sutra says that life and warmth are mixed together simultaneously, it is established that it is determined by the moment. Furthermore, the sutra says the contact of the three combined, so how can there be consciousness, but not the combination of the three? Or is it a combination, but not contact? Therefore, without a doubt, it should be admitted that all consciousness has contact, and feeling that arises simultaneously with contact. Enough with overly extreme words, only the usual content should be stated in order. The feeling among the mental factors has been briefly explained.

English

Therefore, from the close sphere of the mind, there are also eighteen aspects. Furthermore, the feeling arising from the mind itself, after establishing eighteen kinds of close sphere of the mind, is divided into eighteen aspects. What are the eighteen kinds of close sphere of the mind? Six kinds of pleasant mind's close sphere, six kinds of unpleasant mind's close sphere, and six kinds of equanimity's close sphere. How are these established? If from the nature, then it will become three kinds, namely pleasant mind, unpleasant mind, and equanimity's close sphere. However, if from the corresponding, then because of corresponding with the mind, it becomes one. However, if from the object, then because of focusing on the six objects such as form, it becomes six kinds. If asked like this, then all three can be established. Among them, fifteen are the close sphere for form and so on, because they focus on the separately determined form and so on, so they focus on the unmixed. The three close spheres for Dharma are two aspects. What is the meaning of the close sphere of the mind? It is said that, relying on the mind, those such as pleasant mind are the reason for the close sphere of the object. Others say, because the mind is the close sphere for the object, because of the power of feeling, the mind repeatedly spheres for the object. Why is the feeling of the body not the close sphere of the mind? Because this is neither relying solely on the mind, nor is it becoming a close sphere because of non-discrimination, so it is not possible. Why is the happiness of the third dhyana not mentioned in the close sphere of the mind? First, because there is no root of happiness of the mind in the desire realm, and because of its incompatible suffering mind's close sphere. If these are only the mind's place, then, in the sutra it says: after the eyes see form and so on, for the form and so on of the pleasant mind's place, how are these guided? That is said considering the obvious accomplishment by the collection of consciousness, these are the mind's place, for example, unpleasant things are the consciousness of the eyes.
