Bodies and consciousnesses are different, bodies are different and consciousness is one. Conversely, body and consciousness are one. The three formless ones, the seven abodes of consciousness should be understood in order. The sutra says that there are sentient beings with different forms and different consciousnesses, such as humans and some gods. This is called the first abode of consciousness. Who are some of the gods? Those who dwell in the desire realm, and those who are born in the first dhyana, except for the first born. Why are their bodies different? Because their bodies are different, with various colors, signs, and shapes. Why are their consciousnesses different? Because of the multiplicity of consciousness, consciousnesses are different. Because these exist in them, they are different consciousnesses, because there is pleasure, suffering, and neither suffering nor pleasure. There are also sentient beings with different forms and the same consciousness, such as the gods who are first born in the Brahma realm. This is called the second abode of consciousness. Because all those who are first born think, "We are created by Brahma," and Brahma also thinks, "These are created by me," therefore the flow of consciousness is not different, so their consciousness is the same. The body of the Great Brahma, including its size and shape, as well as its speech and clothing, are different, and its retinue is also different, so their bodies are different. The sutra says that they think, "We see this sentient being living long and abiding for a long time," and even "This sentient being also thinks, 'May other sentient beings also be born here with me, without separation,'" and knows "We are also born here." How do they see these? Some say that it is seen by those who dwell in the realm of light, who are reborn from there after death. If one has not attained the samadhi of the second dhyana, how can one remember the state of their previous place? If one has attained it, how can one hold the precepts and asceticism aimed at the Great Brahma as supreme?

are those who are attached to the view (of permanence). Others say that it is seen by those who dwell in the intermediate state (bardo). Then, since there is no obstruction, it is impossible to remain for a long time. How would those beings know, "We see this sentient being living long and remaining for a long time"? Therefore, only those who dwell there can recall their previous state and see that they have remained for such a long time. Having seen it, they know that they have seen it later as well. There are also sentient beings who have form, the same body, but different consciousness, such as the gods of clear light. It is said in the sutras that this is the third abode of consciousness. Here, because the "extreme" is mentioned, it should be understood that all of the second dhyana is included. If it were not so, then where would the gods of limited light and the gods of immeasurable light be established as abodes of consciousness? Because their color, signs, and shapes are not different, their bodies are the same. Because they perceive happiness, and because they perceive neither happiness nor suffering, their consciousnesses are different. Those (deities) on the main ground, having become weary of mental pleasure, manifest equanimity from the access concentration. Having become weary of the equanimity of the access concentration, they again manifest mental pleasure on the main ground. For example, powerful people become weary of the joy of desire and then experience the joy of dharma; having become weary of the joy of dharma, they again experience the joy of desire. So it is said. If this is the case, wouldn't it be too much for those who increase in virtue? No, because they do not become weary of that happiness. Why? Because happiness is peaceful, and mental pleasure agitates the mind, so it is not peaceful. The Sutra masters say that in the sutra it is said that among the gods of clear light, those sentient beings who are born not long ago, who are not skilled in the destruction of this world, nor skilled in its formation, see the flames and think that the flames will burn the empty Brahma palace and come here, which would be bad, so their hair stands on end, and they feel disgust and sorrow. The gods of clear light
