The imputations as causes are merely respectful statements. Because nothing other than causes appears to act. If the Lord exists simultaneously with the first co-acting cause, it will also become non-Lord. If it is said that the first thing that arises arises from the cause of the Lord, then because it does not depend on other causes, it will fall into the state of having no beginning, like the Lord. Similarly, for the Pradhāna, one should speak appropriately. Therefore, the cause of the world is not singular, but it is only by one's own actions that it causes birth in this and that life. Those who have not subdued their afflicted minds, when experiencing the ripening fruit and the fruit of the agent, wrongly impute it entirely to other Lords. This is the end. Furthermore, if asked: How do the elements become the cause and condition of the elements, as it is said, "The other arises from the two"? The answer is: There are two kinds of elements there. The term "cause of the elements" is realized through causes that have equal potential and arise together. There are five kinds that are transformed from the elements. The causes of the elements transformed from the elements are five, what are the five? Namely: the cause of production, the cause of dependence, the cause of existence, the cause of holding, and the cause of growth. That is to say, only these five forms of the acting cause are different. The cause of production is because it arises from them. The cause of dependence is because it makes what has arisen harmonize with the element, just like depending on a teacher and so on. The cause of existence is because it becomes the dependent, like a picture on a wall. The cause of holding is because it is an uninterrupted ornament. The cause of growth is because it is the cause of growth. Therefore, the causes of their production, change, dependence, existence, holding, and growth have been explained. The three kinds of phenomena, arising and changing, are causes to each other, which is realized through co-arising, having equal potential, and the ripening cause. The acting cause is always uncountable because it enters without distinction. Among them, the co-arising cause is the actions of body, speech, and mind.
