It is the immediately preceding cause, and this cause is both a similar cause and an immediately preceding cause, so it is a similar immediately preceding cause. Therefore, because of unequal arising, form is not a similar immediately preceding cause. If it is thought in this way, in the continuum of form included in the desire realm, sometimes form that is included in the desire realm and form included in the form realm, which are non-manifest forms, arise. Sometimes form included in the desire realm and uncontaminated dharmas arise, therefore the manifestation of form is mixed up. The similar immediately preceding cause is not mixed up. The venerable Vasumitra says that the continuum of form arising from growth, only when it is uninterrupted, will the second arise. The venerable one says that it is because of arising very much and very little. Sometimes few forms arise from many forms, for example, ashes of grass and trees. Sometimes many arise from few, for example, from a small banyan seed, gradually a banyan tree with many branches grows. For mind and mental factors, are there not many or few dharmas arising from virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified minds, and the three samadhis such as those with investigation and analysis? For other kinds there are, but for their own kinds there are not. At no time do feelings or perceptions, etc., arise very much. Again, is it only the similar immediately preceding cause of one's own kind? It is not. Here it is said that all aggregates are the similar immediately preceding cause of all other aggregates. Here it is only said that it is impossible for many feelings, etc., to arise from few feelings, etc. Similar continuums are the similar immediately preceding cause of their own kind, mind is of mind, and feeling is of feeling. Thinking extensively in this way, when afflictions arise in the continuum of non-afflictions, the similar immediately preceding cause of that affliction is the previously ceased affliction. For example, from the cessation of the arising mind arises the mind of absorption.

It should not be said thus. Also, the non-associated compositional factors appear to be scattered, and precisely because of this, the similar one is not an immediately preceding condition, because the three realms and the non-associated ones appear simultaneously. Why is the future similar one not considered an immediately preceding condition? Because the future time is scattered, because there is no before or after. Then, how does the Bhagavan know that this future will occur after a certain future? Because it is inferred by following past and present actions. The Bhagavan observes the past time and says that the result of such and such an action is such and such, or dharma arises from dharma, and the present action is also such and such, therefore, from this action also such and such a result will arise, or dharma will arise from dharma. His knowledge is not derived from inference either, like this, the Bhagavan follows past and present actions to infer, thereby directly ascertaining the scattered phenomena of the future, and knows that this person has done such and such an action, so he will obtain this future result. It is said to be so. If that is the case, the Bhagavan, without seeing the previous limit, will not know the later limit. Others say that in the continuum of sentient beings, there is a distinction of non-associated compositional factors that has become a sign of the fruit, and the Bhagavan sees it and, while manifesting meditation or direct knowledge, also knows the future. The Sutra masters say that if that is the case, the Bhagavan would only be a diviner, not directly knowing. Therefore, the Bhagavan knows everything merely by intention, and the Bhagavan has also said that the realm of the Buddhas is inconceivable. If the order of the future is not fixed, then why is it that only the forbearance of knowing the dharma of suffering arises after the supreme dharma, and not others? Similarly, why is it that only the knowledge of exhaustion arises after the vajra-like samadhi, and not others?
