It is called "pure." The characteristics of those two will be explained below. Wrath, resentment, deceit, jealousy, spite, concealment, stinginess, hypocrisy, arrogance, and harm are the minor disturbing emotions. Because these have the place of minor disturbing emotions, these are the places of minor disturbing emotions, which can be abandoned only by ignorance and cultivation, and are only associated with the mind-ground. These will be explained among the near disturbing emotions. These five mental factors have been explained. There are also other uncertain things such as investigation, analysis, regret, and sleep. Therefore, it should be stated in which mind, how many mental factors will inevitably arise. First, the mind that operates in desire has five aspects: two aspects of virtue and non-virtue, namely, unmixed and associated with other disturbing emotions; and two aspects of undeclared, namely, obscured and undeclared, and unobscured and undeclared. In this regard, the mind that operates in desire is necessarily accompanied by investigation and analysis, therefore, for this, for the virtuous mind of desire, because it has investigation and analysis, twenty-two mental factors will inevitably arise, namely, the ten all-pervasive mental factors, the ten virtuous mental factors, and investigation and analysis. In some cases, regret is added. Since not all virtuous minds have regret, in the mind that has regret, if it is measured by itself, twenty-three mental factors will arise. What is called regret? Its nature is remorse. This is called regret because it is a dharma that focuses on regret, that is, remorse. For example, the gate of liberation that focuses on emptiness is called emptiness, and non-attachment that focuses on ugliness is called ugliness. In the world, it is also common to see statements such as "all the villages have gathered" and "all the regions have gathered," which show the place. Regret is also the place of remorse. Alternatively, this is attributing the cause to the result, for example, it is said in the sutras that "these six sources of contact should be understood as past karma." So, what

Then, what is regret that takes as its object what has not been done? It is the case where what has not been done is said to have been done, such as thinking, "What I have not done is bad." Then, what is virtuous regret? It is the suffering that arises from not having done virtuous deeds and having done non-virtuous deeds. Conversely, regret is non-virtuous, because both of these depend on each other. Non-virtue is divided into the unmixed and the associated with views, each having twenty. In non-virtuous minds, those that are unmixed have twenty mental factors arising, namely, the ten pervasive mental factors, the six root afflictions, the two non-virtuous root mental factors, and investigation and discernment. "Unmixed" means that the mind only has ignorance and no other afflictions such as desire. In non-virtuous minds, those associated with views also have twenty arising, the same as in the unmixed case. If it is said that because of the increase of views, there should be twenty-one arising, that is not correct. Because, what is called a view is only some difference in wisdom among the pervasive mental factors. Therefore, in non-virtuous minds associated with views, it refers to those in which there is wrong view, view of holding views as supreme, or view of holding ethics and vows as supreme. Afflictions such as tranquility and anger, etc., and regret, there are twenty-one in total. In non-virtuous minds, whether it is desire, anger, pride, or doubt, whatever is associated with these four afflictions has twenty-one arising, namely, the twenty that were said when that affliction was unmixed. Those associated with the near afflictions such as anger, etc., as previously described, also have those twenty, and that near affliction, for a total of twenty-one arising. Those associated with regret also have twenty-one arising, because regret itself is one of those twenty-one. In short, in non-virtuous minds, the unmixed and those associated with views each have twenty arising; while those associated with afflictions and near afflictions, etc., have twenty-one arising. Obscured but unspecified has eighteen. In the desire realm, minds associated with the view of the aggregates as self and the view of clinging to extremes are obscured but unspecified. In such minds, there are eighteen mental factors arising.
