If asked, what contradiction is there in this? Then, all things that have the same nature will not become a single object. From this, other similar categories will also arise, therefore, whatever the reason that belongs to that situation, it should also be understood here. Self-respect and conscientiousness will be explained below. The two roots refer to the two roots of virtue, namely non-attachment and non-hatred. Although there is also non-ignorance, it is the nature of wisdom. Because wisdom belongs to multiple mental factors, it cannot be said that this is only the multiple mental factors of virtue. Non-harming means not causing any harm. Diligence means that the mind manifests joy. The multiple mental factors of virtue have been explained. Multiple mental factors means multiple mental factors. Because these have multiple mental factors of affliction, these are the multiple mental factors of affliction, that is, those dharmas that always appear in the mind with affliction. So, what are the dharmas that always appear in the mind with affliction? Ignorance, carelessness, and laziness, disbelief, lethargy, and agitation, always arise in the afflicted mind. Among them, ignorance refers to unknowing, that is, not understanding and not being clear. Carelessness means not cultivating virtuous dharmas, that is, dharmas that are contrary to cultivation. Laziness means that the mind is not joyful, that is, the aspect that is contrary to diligence. Disbelief means that the mind does not trust, that is, the aspect that is contrary to faith. What is lethargy? Heaviness of body and heaviness of mind, unsuitability of body for activity and unsuitability of mind for activity, these are lethargy. In the Abhidharma, how are bodily lethargy and mental lethargy explained? Since it is a dharma that arises from the mind, how can it be of the body? It's like bodily feelings. Agitation means that the mind is not tranquil, so it seems that these six are the multiple mental factors of affliction. In the Abhidharma, aren't these the ten multiple mental factors of affliction? Among them, there is no lethargy, but disbelief, laziness, forgetfulness, distraction, ignorance, non-intelligence, improper attention, wrong understanding, agitation, and carelessness.

Knowing change is what pleases the gods, but knowing desire is not. What is desire here? It is forgetfulness, distraction, non-mindfulness, inappropriate attention, and wrong belief, because these are of many minds. For example, non-ignorance is the nature of wisdom, so it is not necessarily regarded as a virtuous many-mind; similarly, the many-minds of afflictions are not necessarily regarded as faults. It is thought that only afflicted mindfulness is forgetfulness, and only afflicted samadhi is distraction, and so on. Therefore, if some are many-minds, are they also the many-minds of afflictions? There are four possibilities: the first is feeling, perception, thought, intention, and contact. The second is lack of faith, laziness, ignorance, excitement, and carelessness. The third is the five afflicted mindfulness, etc., as previously described. The fourth is other than those. Some think that mental wandering is different from wrong samadhi, so their fourth possibility is not like that. If dullness is thought to be associated with all afflictions, who would blame it for not being included among the many-minds of afflictions? Although it should be said, it is not included because it is similar to samadhi. Because practicing dullness will quickly generate samadhi, but practicing excitement will not. It is said that some say this. Who would not practice excitement but practice dullness? Or who would not practice dullness but practice excitement? Although these will never abandon practicing together, it should be known that whichever is dominant is the practice. Therefore, only six great minds of afflictions can be established. Moreover, these always arise only in afflicted minds, and not in other minds. For the non-virtuous, there are shamelessness and lack of shame. Shamelessness and lack of shame always arise in non-virtuous minds, so these dharmas are the great minds of the non-virtuous.
