The smallest form of all is called the accumulated subtle dust. What is smaller than that is invisible. If it is in the desire realm and has neither sound nor sense organs, then it is born with eight substances. It is not possible to be without any of them. The eight substances are the four great elements and the four forms caused by them, namely form, smell, taste, and touch. If the subtle dust has sense organs but no sound, then it is born with nine or ten substances. Among them, one with the body sense has nine substances. Because it has the body sense, it has the body sense. The nine substances are the previous eight and the body sense. Other senses have ten substances. Any subtle dust that has other sense organs has ten substances, namely the previous nine, and any of the four sense organs of eye, ear, nose, and tongue. If these subtle dusts are born with sound, then they are born with nine, ten, and eleven substances in order. There is also sound that is inseparable from the sense organs, which is produced from the cause of the graspable great elements. If the elements are not inseparable, why are only some combinations here considered hard, while others are considered liquid, warm, or moving? Whatever is most clear and dominant in any place through power is considered most prominent there. For example, the touch of a collection of needles and trees, and the taste of flour and salt powder. How then should it be understood that the remaining ingredients are present in these things? Through action, namely collecting, holding, ripening, and moving. When encountering conditions, hardness and so on also turn into liquid and so on. Others say that water understands the existence of warmth through the characteristic of coldness. Even if not mixed, there will be differences, like the difference between sound and feeling. Others say that these things exist in those things from the aspect of seeds, but not in their own essence, because it is said in the sutras: This tree trunk has various elements. What color is the wind? This matter should be believed, not speculated.

It is not. Or because it holds the smell in a mixed way, because there is no confusion of color in that. In the realm of form, it is said that there is no smell and taste, so the existing atoms are said to have six, seven, and eight substances, because it has already been said to be similar, so it is not said again. Also, is it that only substance itself is regarded as substance here? Or is the substance of the āyatana regarded as substance? Therefore, what will happen? If only substance itself is regarded as substance, then saying that it has eight substances, nine substances, and ten substances is said to be too few. Because that is the accumulation of atoms, there must be a shape. From heaviness and lightness, there will be any one, and from softness and roughness, there will be any one. Some also have cold, and also hunger and thirst. However, if the āyatana is regarded as substance, then saying that it has eight substances is said to be too much, it should be said that it has four substances, because all things that arise are the āyatana of touch. Here, a little bit is to regard substance itself as substance, that is, whatever is the basis. Here, a little bit is to regard the substance of the āyatana as substance, that is, whatever has become the basis. Even so, the substances of the elements will become many, because each of the forms that are the cause depends on the four elements. Here, it follows the kind, because the other four great elements do not go beyond the kind. What is the need to explain in detail in that way? Because words enter from the perspective of intention, so the meaning should be examined. The definite birth of things with form has been said. The remaining should be said, first, mind and mental factors are definitely together. These cannot arise without each other. All conditioned characteristics, must be combined together, whether it is form, mind, mental factors, or non-associated formations. Whatever arises slightly, all arise together with the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. Obtaining, or obtaining and the imputation of being a sentient being (སེམས་ཅན,梵文:sattva,梵文罗马拟音:sattva,汉语字面意思:sentient being) together.
