If they touch, then they will exist in the next moment, they say. The venerable one says: There is no touch, it is merely perceived as touching the attachments. The view of the venerable one should be accepted. If it is not so, then who can prevent the atoms with intervals from going into the empty spaces? Therefore, they consider them to be with obstruction. The things accumulated from atoms are not other, only those accumulated things are touch, like visible objects. If one thinks that atoms have different directional parts, then whether touching or not, it will lead to having parts. If it is not so, then touching will not lead to having parts. Also, why do these eyes, etc., quickly enter objects of the same size as themselves like fire wheels, etc., thereby grasping mountains, etc.? Or do they grasp equal or unequal things? Some say that those that are said to meet with the object, the three (senses) such as the nose, consider the object to be equal. The sense organ's atoms meet with the same number of object's atoms, thereby generating consciousness. The eyes and ears are uncertain, sometimes small, such as when seeing the tip of a hair. Sometimes equal, such as when seeing a grape. Sometimes large, such as when merely opening the eyes and seeing a large mountain. Similarly, it should also be applied to the ear hearing the sounds of bees and dragons, etc. Mind is not corporeal, therefore it does not use the measure of completely determining this. Also, how do the atoms of the sense organs such as the eye exist? Some say that the atoms of the eye exist in the eyeball, like flax flowers, covered with color, therefore they do not separate. Others say that they exist up and down like balls, clear like crystal, therefore they do not obscure each other. The sense organ's atoms of the ear exist in the ear canal. The sense organ's atoms of the nose exist in the nostrils. The first three sense organs exist like a rosary. The sense organ's atoms of the tongue

It is like a pale yellow moon. It is said that in the center of the tongue, a spot as small as the tip of a hair is not covered by the fine particles of the tongue's sensory organ. The fine particles of the body's sensory organ exist as the body itself. The fine particles of the female sensory organ are like the tubes of reeds. The fine particles of the male sensory organ are like thumbs. Among them, the fine particles of the eye's sensory organ are sometimes all dependent, and sometimes they are the same as it. Sometimes some are dependent and some are the same as it, and it is the same between the fine particles of the tongue's sensory organ. The fine particles of the body's sensory organ are not completely dependent. Even for those dwelling in the intensely burning hells, there are countless fine particles of the body's sensory organ that are the same, and if all of them generate consciousness, the body will be destroyed. A single fine particle of a sensory organ or a single fine particle of an object cannot generate consciousness, because the basis and object of the collection of the five consciousnesses are accumulated. For that very reason, fine particles are invisible and therefore cannot be pointed out. If the six realms from eye consciousness to mind consciousness are explained, are the objects of the five always present, and are the three times of the end the same, then is the basis also the same? It is said, no. What is it then? The final basis is past. The basis of the mind consciousness realm is the immediately ceased mind. For the five, they are also co-emergent. The word "also" means also past. Among them, the co-emergent basis of eye consciousness is the eye, and up to body consciousness it is also the body, and their past basis is the mind. Thus, the basis of the collection of the five consciousnesses is two sensory organs. Because of these two, if what is the object of the basis of eye consciousness, is that which is the same as it also an object because of the immediately preceding condition? There are four possibilities: the first possibility is the eye. The second is the Dharma realm mind.

English

It is immediately past arising from karma. The third is the immediately past mind. The fourth is all dharmas other than those spoken of, and similarly, up to the consciousness of the body, one should speak of one's own faculty. The consciousness of mind is connected to the previous sentence. For the time being, that which is the object of support is also the object of the immediately preceding condition. There are also those that are the object of the immediately preceding condition but not the object of support, namely, the immediately past arising from the dharmadhatu mind. Furthermore, if eye consciousness arises dependent on both, why are only the eye and so on called support, and not form and so on? Because those change, they themselves change. The support is the eye and so on. It should be connected to "the elements and so on." When the eye and so on change, the consciousnesses and so on change, because they follow what is beneficial and harmful, clear and harmless, and unclear. When form and so on change, those do not change. Therefore, because they depend on those, those themselves are the support. This is very good, but not form and so on. Furthermore, if those cognize form and so on, why is it from eye consciousness to mind consciousness, and not from form consciousness to dharma consciousness? Because the support of those is the eye and so on, therefore, because it is not common. Those show consciousness. How is it not common? The eye cannot become the support of another consciousness, but form can also become the object of mind consciousness, and can also become the object of another eye consciousness, and even the body should be understood in the same way. Therefore, because it is the support and because it is not common, only those show consciousness, but not form and so on, like the sound of a large drum and the sprout of barley. Furthermore, dwelling in the body and so on, the eye sees forms and so on, then the body, eye, and form
