Isn't it said that these are distinctions? If the house is like that, then what is the action similar to the eye that is happening now? It is producing and holding fruits. If so, then the past, which has the same causes and conditions, will also necessarily become an action or be doing in order to produce the fruit, which would lead to confusion of definition. This also needs to be explained: if the dharma exists only in its own nature, then it becomes an obstacle to always doing things. Because sometimes it is said to do, and sometimes it is said not to do. If it is said that the conditions have not gathered, that is not possible, because it has been promised that it always exists. What is the action called past, future, and present? How is that? Is there another action for the action? Or it is neither past, nor future, nor present, and if it exists, then it is unconditioned, so it will become always existing. Therefore, when the dharma does not act, it should not be said that it is future. If the action is different from the dharma, then it will also become that fault, if it is different, then it is not other, so it will not become that fault. If that is the case, then it is not possible in time, if only the dharma is the action, then the dharma exists only in its own nature, why is it sometimes said to be past, and sometimes said to be future? The distinction of time cannot be established. The dharma that has not arisen is the future. What has arisen but has not perished is the present happening. What has perished is the past, what is there that cannot be established by saying this? Here it needs to be explained, if, like the things that exist in the present, the past and the future also exist, then, like that, if it exists, why doesn't it arise? If the dharma exists only in its own nature, then how can it be established that it has not arisen or perished? Because it does not exist, it is said that it has not arisen, then what would have happened before that did not happen? Because it does not exist, it is said that it has perished, then what will not exist after that? Therefore, if it is not from not happening that it happens, and after happening, one does not want it to not happen again, then the three times

In no way will it be established. If it is said that because it possesses the characteristic of conditioned phenomena, it will not become the fault of being permanent, that is also just words, because birth and destruction are not allowed. This way of speaking, that the dharma is both permanent and impermanent, is unprecedented. Again, it is said: "Self-nature is also always existent, things are also not desired to be permanent, things are also not different from self-nature, autonomy is clearly a designation." Again, it is said: "Because something was said." We also say that the past and the future exist. Whatever has happened in the past is the past; whatever will happen if there are conditions is the future. In this way, it is said to exist, but not as a substance. It exists as it is now, they say. Otherwise, how does it exist? Although it exists in the nature of the past and the future, if it always exists, then how can it be called the past and the future? Therefore, the Blessed One, in order to refute the view of slandering cause and effect, in order to understand that the cause that has occurred in the past and the effect that will arise in the future, have occurred in the past and will arise, therefore said that the past exists and the future exists. The word "exists" is said because it is an expression of speech. For example, the speaker says that the previous lamp has gone out, and the subsequent lamp has also gone out. Again, for example, the lamp has gone out, but I did not extinguish it, they argue. Similarly, the past and the future also exist. If it were not so, the past and the future would not be established at all. Then, what does it mean that the Blessed One, for the sake of those who wander everywhere, carry wooden staffs, and have disheveled hair, said that whatever actions have passed, have been exhausted, have ceased, have been separated, and have been transformed, exist? Do they not consider these to have happened previously? This is because they think that from the continuum of these actions, there is the power to produce the fruit that is led by these actions. If it were not so, if it only existed in its own nature, the past could not be established. This is undoubtedly so.
