Therefore, these inversions are not real. Then, what about the sutra that says, "The inversion of perceiving permanence in impermanence, the inversion of mind, and the inversion of view"? Here, only the view is inverted. Because the mind and perception are influenced by the inverted view, and correspond to the inverted view, it is said that perception and mind are inverted. Why are feelings and so on not mentioned? Because that is how it is said in the world. In the world, only the inversion of perception and the inversion of mind are spoken of, but not the inversion of feeling. All these inversions are abandoned by those who have entered the stream, because those that correspond to the view are to be abandoned by the path of seeing. Other schools say that from the three inversions of perceiving permanence in impermanence, mind, and view, to the three between perceiving self in non-self, there are twelve inversions in total. Among them, eight are to be abandoned by the path of seeing. The four inversions of perceiving suffering and impurity, mind, and perception are to be abandoned by the path of meditation. If it were not so, how could the perceptions of pleasure and purity be extinguished? They say that if a noble one has not abandoned desire, then desire for desire will arise. The Vaibhashikas do not accept this view. If they believe that noble ones have perceptions of pleasure and purity, and that mind arises and these are inverted, then why do they not also believe that the perceptions of sentient beings and the arising of mind are also inversions of these? If the attachment to women and self is not considered the perception of sentient beings, then it is unreasonable for desire for non-desire to arise. The sutra also says that the noble Shravaka disciple is endowed with hearing, and truly knows, as it is, that "This is the noble truth of suffering." From then on, he abandons the inversion of perceiving permanence in impermanence, the inversion of mind, and the inversion of view. Therefore, only the perception and mind that are aroused by the view are inverted.

So what is inverted? It is not others, because at that time it is just an illusion, like the illusion of a torch wheel and a painted yaksha, they say. Others say, then, Venerable Ananda, influenced by the Holy Lord of Speech, said: "Inverted perception, makes your mind completely suffer." What about this statement? Therefore, the learner has not abandoned all eight inverted perceptions and minds. These can only be abandoned by truly knowing the truths of the Noble Ones as they are, and it is not possible without it, because this is the correct way to show the method, so there is no contradiction with the sutras, they say. Again, is there a distinction only in the subtle details of reality? Or is there none in others? There is also pride. How so? It is said that there are "seven prides," namely pride, excessive pride, pride beyond pride, conceit, arrogance, false pride, and wrong pride. Arrogance and self-satisfaction without distinction is called pride. From the distinction of entering into it, there are seven types: thinking that oneself is superior to the inferior, or thinking that one is equal to the equal, this is pride. Thinking that oneself is superior to the equal, this is excessive pride. Thinking that oneself is superior even to the superior, this is pride beyond pride. Regarding the five aggregates of close grasping, thinking "I" or "mine," this is conceit. Not having obtained the special qualities that should be obtained, but thinking that one has obtained them, this is arrogance. Thinking that one is only a little inferior to the most superior, this is false pride. Thinking that one possesses qualities when one does not possess them, this is wrong pride. So, the treatises say that there are nine types of pride, namely thinking "I am the most excellent," this is a type of pride; thinking "I am equal to him," this is a type of pride; thinking "I am inferior to him," this is a type of pride; thinking "there is one superior to me," "there is one equal to me," "there is one inferior to me," "there is no one superior to me," "there is no one equal to me," "there is no one inferior to me," this is a type of pride, what about these?
