Or, if it is external, because the mind is the basis of self-grasping, it is called "I." As it is said in the scriptures, "The wise, by taming themselves, will attain the happiness of the heavenly realms." The Blessed One also said, "Taming the mind is the best, taming the mind leads to happiness." Because taming the mind is excellent, the eye and so on are the objects of reliance on the mind as self, therefore they are internal. Forms and so on are objects, therefore they are external. If that is the case, then wouldn't the six consciousness realms not be internal? Because they are not the mind realm itself, wouldn't they not be the basis of the mind? Whenever they are, they are themselves, and they do not go beyond their own nature. If it were not so, the mind realm would only be the past, and would not be the future and the present, then the eighteen realms would also be considered to be of the three times. If the future and present consciousness are not the nature of the mind realm, then even in the past time it would not be established as the mind realm, because the nature is never confused in all times. Which are the realms with dependence? And which are those similar to them? For the time being, one is. The so-called "Dharma" is with dependence. If a consciousness is determined to be the object of something, and if that consciousness arises in that object, or that object is the nature of arising, then that object is called with dependence. For which limitless mind consciousness does not arise or will not arise, there is no such thing as the realm of Dharma. For example, all noble beings undoubtedly give rise to this thought: all dharmas are without self. Its object is also all dharmas except for those that arise together with its own nature. That moment of mind is also not the object of another moment of mind, so all dharmas become the object of two moments. Therefore, the Dharma realm is always with dependence. The rest are also similar to that. The word "also" means that there are also those with dependence.
