Sound is not born from Vipāka. Why? Because it arises according to desire. Then, in which treatise is it said that, in order to abandon harsh words and cultivate diligently, the marks of a great person accomplish the very voice of Brahma? Some say that this sequence is the third, that is, from actions and so on, the elements arise, and from the elements, sound arises. Some say that this sequence is the fifth, that is, from actions and so on, the elements born from Vipāka arise, from those, the ones born from growth arise, and from those, the ones born from similar causes arise. From those, sound arises. If that is the case, then the body's feeling is also born from the elements born from actions, so it becomes not Vipāka. If it contradicts reason like sound, it becomes not Vipāka. Born from similar causes, born from Vipāka. Eight unobstructed ones. What are the eight? The seven mind realms and the Dharma realm, that is, those born from equal share and pervasive causes, are born from similar causes. Those born from Vipāka causes are born from Vipāka. There is no growth-born, because there is no growth for the unobstructed ones. Other three kinds. The others are the remaining four, that is, the realms of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch. These are also born from Vipāka, also born from growth, and also born from similar causes. Together with substance. The unconditioned is substance because it is permanent. It also exists in the Dharma realm, therefore only the Dharma realm is together with substance. The last three are momentary, that is, the mind realm, the Dharma realm, and the consciousness realm, are the last in the order of enumeration. They are the first of the uncontaminated forbearance, in the collection of the forbearance of knowing the Dharma in suffering, one moment is not born from a similar cause, therefore they are called moments. No other conditioned phenomena are not born from similar causes. Among them, the forbearance of knowing the Dharma in suffering.

The mind that possesses similarity to that is the realm of mind and the realm of consciousness. The rest that arise simultaneously with that are the realm of phenomena. This should be examined: If one obtains the possession of the eye realm from not possessing it, does one also possess eye consciousness? If one is associated with eye consciousness, is one also associated with the eye realm? It is said: Eye and consciousness, realms are separate, and there are also those that are obtained simultaneously. For a moment, those that are separate are those that are associated with the eye realm, but not associated with the eye consciousness realm, which means gradually obtaining the eye faculty in the desire realm, and dying from the formless realm and being born in the second dhyana and so on. Those that are associated with the eye consciousness realm, but not associated with the eye realm, are those who manifest eye consciousness having been born in the second dhyana and so on, and dying from those and being born in lower realms. Simultaneously, there are also those that are associated with both, which means dying from the formless realm and being born in the desire realm and the Brahma world. Those that are not associated with both are those that are excluded from those aspects. If one is associated with the eye realm, is one also associated with the eye consciousness realm? There are four possibilities. The first possibility is when one is born in the second dhyana and so on, and does not manifest eye consciousness. The second is when one has not obtained or has lost the eye in the desire realm. The third is when one has obtained and not lost the eye in the desire realm, and when one is born in the first dhyana, and like those born in the second dhyana and so on. The fourth is those that are excluded from those aspects. Similarly, the obtaining and association of the eye realm with forms and so on, and the eye consciousness realm with forms and so on, should also be examined accordingly. The word 'also' in 'simultaneously also' comes incidentally, and this is the meaning of gathering. How many realms are internal? How many realms are external? Twelve are internal. Which twelve? The six consciousnesses excluding forms and so on, and the six bases, these twelve realms are internal. The six object realms, such as forms, are external. In the absence of self, how can it be internal?
