And how should it be applied accordingly? Greed and so on cannot be the application, because the action has not yet begun, and merely generating the thought is not considered having made the application. In the sutra, it says, "Monks, killing has three aspects: arising from attachment, arising from hatred, and arising from ignorance." From there to wrong view, it is said, what is killing arising from attachment like? These and so on should be stated. Here, all paths of action are not completed by attachment and so on, but the application arises from the three roots. These applications arise from the three roots of non-virtue, therefore, it is said that way from the words of incitement at the beginning. Among them, killing arising from attachment is like this: killing for the sake of the limbs of his body, or for wealth, or for amusement, or for completely protecting oneself or a friend. Killing arising from hatred is like this: killing in order to necessarily escape from him. Killing arising from ignorance is like this: those who perform sacrifices, and kings who take the Dharma as the standard, killing with the thought of Dharma, claiming that if those who have not committed crimes are punished with penalties, the king will become a vessel of merit, like the view of the Brahmins, who say: if parents are old or afflicted with severe illness, they should be killed. And some say this: snakes, scorpions, wasps, mosquitoes, etc., harm people, so they should be killed. Deer, livestock, birds, buffalo, etc., should be killed for the sake of enjoyment. And also killing that is thoroughly imbued with wrong views. Taking what is not given arising from attachment is: seizing what one seeks for oneself, or for the sake of another's wealth, respect, or fame, or seizing in order to completely protect oneself or a friend. Arising from hatred is: seizing in order to necessarily escape from him. Arising from ignorance is like this: kings who take the Dharma as the standard, punishing those who have not committed crimes with penalties.

It is like robbing something from others. For example, Brahmins say: 'All of this is given to the Brahmins by Brahma. If the Brahmins are of low status, then the lower castes can enjoy it at will. Therefore, taking from the Brahmins is the Brahmin taking it back for himself, eating it himself, wearing it himself, and giving it away himself.' Like this. It is not that they do not have the concept of self and others. Whatever is taken without being given, being completely imbued with wrong views. Sexual misconduct arising from desire, born from attachment, is being attached to other people's wives, etc., or for the sake of gain or respect, or for the sake of protecting oneself or a friend, engaging in impure conduct. Born from hatred, it is engaging in sexual misconduct in order to necessarily obtain something from that person. Born from ignorance, for example, having relations with cosmos flowers, mothers, etc., and in the sacrifice of a young bull, drinking ritualistic water, cutting grass, going to one's mother for sexual misconduct, going to one's sister, going to one's clan, like this, wherever one can obtain these, one should go there, and in this way one will conquer the bull and the world, like this. Some say that women are like mortars, flowers, fruits, ripe food, shores, and roads. Lying, etc., born from attachment, born from hatred, is the same as before. Lying born from ignorance is as it is said: 'When the king is laughing, with women, at the time of marriage, at the time of killing, at the time of taking all wealth, lying is harmless, these five lies do not cause one to fall.' Saying like this. Whatever lying is completely imbued with wrong views. Slander, etc., born from ignorance, is being completely imbued with wrong views, and revealing bad treatises, etc. If one asks how greed, etc., arise from attachment, etc.? Because they arise from the aftermath of those. Greed, etc., arise from the three roots. What arises as the aftermath of attachment is what arises from attachment.

English

The final result of hatred is born from hatred. The final result of ignorance is born from ignorance. The paths of non-virtuous actions have been explained. What are the paths of virtuous actions? Virtuous actions, including preparation and conclusion, arise from the absence of attachment, hatred, and ignorance. The paths of virtuous actions, including preparation, conclusion, and so on, are born from the absence of attachment, hatred, and ignorance because they are initiated by a virtuous mind and are undoubtedly associated with non-attachment and so on. Therefore, in the path of non-virtuous actions, abandoning the preparation is the preparation for the path of virtuous actions. Abandoning the main action is the main action. Abandoning the conclusion is the conclusion. That is to say, it causes a novice to take full ordination and enter various places. Bowing to the Sangha. Petitioning the Khenpo, from saying the action once to saying it twice, this is the preparation. The manifestation of saying the action the third time and the non-manifestation of that moment, this is the main action of the path of action. After that, until the dwelling place is declared, or its basis is recognized, and until the non-recognition is followed, this is the conclusion. If it is said that all paths of action are not completed by attachment and so on, then what is completed by what? Killing and harming thoughts, harsh words, are completed by hatred. Killing, harming thoughts, and harsh words, these are completed by hatred, because of complete abandonment and the manifestation of a harsh mind. Adultery, covetousness, and taking what is not given, the mind of desire is complete. Adultery with desire, covetousness, and taking what is not given, these are completed by desire. Wrong views are completed by ignorance when one becomes very deluded. The remaining three are thought to be completed. What are the remaining ones? Lying, divisive speech, and idle talk, these are by attachment, hatred, or ignorance.
