The three actions spoken of are: all three good practices are the three ways of purification. All good practices of the body are the purification of the body. All good practices of speech and mind are the purification of speech and mind, in order to remove the defilements of afflictions from temporary and permanent misdeeds. This teaching is to purify those who are attached to wrong asceticism and cleanliness. The three misdeeds spoken of are: the non-virtue of body, etc., are considered as three misdeeds. The non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind are, in order, the misdeeds of body, speech, and mind. Although covetousness, etc., are not actions, they are also the three misdeeds of mind. Even if it is not the nature of action, there are three kinds of misdeeds of mind, namely, covetousness when the mind turns to other things, harmful intent, and wrong view. The exemplifiers say that, because it is said in the Sutra of What Should Be Specially Considered, only covetousness, etc., are the actions of the mind. If that is the case, then actions and afflictions become one. Even if some afflictions become actions, what will happen? The Vaibhashikas say that it does not exist because it contradicts the Sutra, because the mind enters through its door in the Sutra, so they show it. The despised actions of body, speech, and mind are misdeeds because the result is undesirable. The opposite is good practice. What is the opposite of misdeeds is considered good practice, namely, the virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind, and the absence of covetousness, the absence of harmful intent, and correct views. If there is no thought of benefiting others or harming others, then how can right view and wrong view be said to be virtuous and non-virtuous? Because that is their root. What are the misdeeds and good deeds that have been explained? From that, in brief, virtue and non-virtue, each according to its kind, the path of action is taught as ten. The misdeeds and good deeds themselves, in brief, the Sutra teaches ten paths of action each according to its kind.

Virtuous deeds arise from proper conduct, and non-virtuous deeds arise from improper conduct. Here, what is improper conduct? What proper conduct is not included? Briefly, in the paths of non-virtuous actions, the beginning and end of bodily misconduct, and other afflictions are not included, because they are not extremely coarse. Bodily misconduct, whatever causes separation from livelihood, enjoyment, and spouses, is said to be a path of action in order to separate from them. Verbal misconduct, whatever is severe, is said to be a path of action for that very reason. In terms of mental misconduct, thoughts are also not included. In terms of virtuous deeds, the beginning and end of bodily proper conduct, as well as abstaining from intoxicants, giving, and making offerings, etc., are not included. In terms of verbal proper conduct, pleasant speech, etc., are also not included. In terms of mental proper conduct, thoughts are also not included. Among those paths of action, six non-virtuous ones are not forms of cognition. The six paths of non-virtuous actions, namely, killing, taking what is not given, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, and idle chatter, are undoubtedly of the nature of non-revealing form, because when they cause others to act, there is no actual revealing form. One has two aspects. Sexual misconduct, if one accomplishes it oneself, then if one dies at that time, it is of the nature of revealing and non-revealing form. If one causes others to act, then it is not as enjoyable. If they also act, then those six paths of action, when one acts oneself, if one dies at that time, then they become both revealing and non-revealing form. If one dies later, then it is only revealing and non-revealing form. Among the paths of virtuous action, seven virtuous ones have two aspects. The precepts that are properly taken rely on revealing form, so the seven paths of action with form are undoubtedly revealing and non-revealing form and

Both are. Arising from Samadhi is not indicative. Those that are gathered by Samadhi and the undefiled discipline are called arising from Samadhi. Because they rely solely on the mind, they are only non-indicative. The preparatory actions are indicative. The preparatory actions of the path of action are definitely of the nature of indicative. Does the indicative change to non-indicative? No. If one performs preparatory actions with intense pervasive entanglement or with great joy and earnest attention, then it transforms into non-indicative, otherwise not. Cessation is the end. One should regard the cessation from preparatory actions as the end of the paths of action. They are definitely not of the nature of indicative. Does it transform into indicative? Or not? If, after performing the path of action, one practices Dharma in accordance with it, then it transforms into indicative, otherwise not. Furthermore, how much does one establish the preparatory action, the actual action, and the end? Like this, for example, someone here wants to slaughter livestock. They get up from the bed, etc., demand payment, walk, accumulate, buy livestock, lead it, remember, drive it in, harm it, take a weapon, and strike once or twice with the weapon. As long as they do not kill, that is the preparatory action. The indicative at the moment of striking and killing the livestock, and the non-indicative of that instant, that is the actual path of action. One incurs the fault of killing through two causes: the preparatory action and the completion of the result. The non-indicative moments after that are the end. As long as one skins the hide of that livestock, or washes it, or sells it, or cooks it, or eats it, or subsequently proclaims it, the indicative moments of that are also the end. Similarly, the other six should also be applied accordingly. Greed, etc., merely manifesting transforms into the path of action.
