How could it be both white and black? There is no such thing. Because they are mutually contradictory. If so, then wouldn't non-virtue also become black and white because it is mixed with virtue? Answer: Non-virtue in the desire realm will certainly not be mixed with virtue, because it has power. Virtue is mixed because it is weak. The uncontaminated karma is what exhausts and abandons those three karmas. Because it is not afflicted, it is not black. Because there is no ripening white, it is not white. This term "non-white" is intentional. The Blessed One, in the Great Emptiness Sutra, starting from the non-learning Dharma, said: "Kungawo, these dharmas are purely white, purely virtuous, and purely blameless." It is also said in the treatises: "What are the white dharmas? Answer: They are virtuous dharmas and unobscured and unspecified dharmas." Because it contradicts entering, it is not included in the realm, therefore there is no ripening. Then, do uncontaminated karma and all karmas exhaust all three of these karmas? Answer: No. Then what is it like? Verse: Dharma-patience, free from desire, Which of the eight unobstructed paths, Those twelve consciousnesses, Exhaust black karma. On the path of seeing, there are four dharma-patiences, and whichever of the eight unobstructed paths of detachment from desire from the desire realm, those twelve consciousnesses are the karma that exhausts black karma. Verse: The ninth consciousness, That exhausts white and black. The ninth unobstructed path consciousness of detachment from desire from the desire realm is what exhausts white and black, that is, abandons the nine black forms of virtue and non-virtue. Verse: White contemplation, free from desire, The last born of the unobstructed path. Whichever of the last ninth unobstructed path consciousnesses of contemplation and detachment from desire from contemplation, those four consciousnesses are what abandon white karma. Why is it that only the last path abandons because it is unobstructed?

If asked, is it not others? Answer: Its own nature is not abandonment, because even if abandoned, it manifests. Then what is it like? Answer: Because the afflictions that focus on it are abandoned. Therefore, as long as there is one aspect of the afflictions that focus on it, it is unreasonable not to abandon it. Others are experiencing hell will be, and experiencing other desire realms are two categories. Other teachers say that the karma of experiencing hell and the karma of experiencing desire realms other than hell are black and black and white respectively. Because in hell there is only the ripening of non-virtuous karma, therefore experiencing it will be called black. In desire realms other than that, there is the ripening of virtuous and non-virtuous karma, therefore experiencing it will be regarded as black and white. Others are black to be abandoned by seeing. Others say that the karma to be abandoned by the path of seeing is black because it is not mixed with virtue. Other desire-born are black and white. Other karma practiced in the desire realm is black and white. What is other than that? It is what is to be abandoned by meditation, which is both virtuous and non-virtuous. The sutra says that the Victorious One has three: the Victorious One's body, the Victorious One's speech, and the Victorious One's mind. Regarding that, the body, speech, and mind of the non-learner. The three Victorious Ones are in order. The body and speech karma of the non-learner are the body and speech of the Victorious One. Only the mind of the non-learner is the mind of the Victorious One, not the karma of the mind. Why? The mind is truly victorious, and that is to be inferred through the karma of body and speech, it is said. Furthermore, the karma of body and speech is the nature of abandonment, because the mind has no non-manifestation, so it is not the karma of the mind. The Victorious One is also spoken of in the sense of abandonment, therefore the mind itself is called victorious by abandonment. Why only the non-learner, and not others? Because the Arhat has no expression of all afflictions, therefore it is truly victorious. The sutra says, the one who purifies the body, the one who purifies the speech, and the one who purifies the mind, and the pure
