Practice, action, and discipline are called (the three). Because it enables those who are unequal to abide properly, it is morality. Etymologically, it is because of coolness. As the verse says: 'The body is completely free from suffering, keeping morality is happiness.' Therefore, because it is praised by the wise, it is good conduct. Because it is the nature of action, it is action. Shouldn't it be said that non-manifestation is not action? If so, how is it action? Answer: Because those with a sense of shame uphold it properly, they do not commit evil deeds, so it is called non-action. Moreover, it is also accomplished by manifestation and mind, so it is action. Others say that it is because it is the cause of action and the result of action. Because it can guard body and speech, it is also called the Pratimoksha discipline. Thus, for the time being, the Pratimoksha discipline has been truly taught without distinction. Also, the first manifestation and non-manifestation are the path of Pratimoksha and action. The manifestation of upholding the discipline properly and the first non-manifestation are called Pratimoksha, because it can liberate from sins, meaning abandonment. It is also called the Pratimoksha discipline because it can guard body and speech. It is also called the path of action. For the second moment and so on, it is only the Pratimoksha discipline, not the Pratimoksha itself. It is the ending, but not the real path of action. Also, which of these disciplines correspond to which? There are eight that correspond to Pratimoksha. The Pratimoksha discipline corresponds to the eight categories, namely Bhikshu, Bhikshuni, up to the eighth, the Upavasatha. Also, do outsiders not have morality that is properly upheld? Answer: They do, but it is not the Pratimoksha discipline. Why? Because it relies on conditioned existence, it cannot be permanently liberated from sins. Born of meditation and those with it. Born of meditation from meditation, so it is born of meditation. Whoever has meditation undoubtedly has the discipline of meditation. Here, the near attainment is also spoken of as meditation to teach, for example, the village

There is a Salu field there. There is a rice field, just as the vicinity of a village is also called a village. Possessing undefiled noble beings, as well as undefiled discipline, and noble individuals, they are also learners and non-learners. When explaining the co-emergent cause, if asked what are the two kinds of discipline that follow the mind, which were mentioned, it is these three, the last two are following the mind, the discipline of concentration and, the undefiled discipline. The Pratimoksha discipline is not. Why? Because it also follows other minds and no-mind. The discipline of concentration and, the undefiled discipline, they obtain the name of abandonment discipline. In what situation? It is said, when the uninterrupted path arises, it is said to be abandoned in the invincible. In the invincible, the discipline of concentration and undefiled discipline, in the nine uninterrupted paths, are called abandonment discipline, because they abandon the immoral precepts and, the afflictions that can arise from all of that. Therefore, there is the discipline of concentration, and there is also the case where it is not the abandonment discipline, it should be analyzed in four sentences, the first sentence is the contaminated concentration discipline except for the invincible uninterrupted path. The second sentence is that in the nine uninterrupted paths of the invincible, it is undefiled. The third sentence is that in the nine uninterrupted paths of the invincible, it is contaminated. The fourth sentence is the undefiled discipline except for the invincible uninterrupted path. Similarly, there is the undefiled discipline, and there is also the case where it is not the abandonment discipline, it should also be understood according to the four-sentence analysis. Then, what the Blessed One said, the discipline of the body is good, the discipline of speech is also good, the discipline of mind is also good, at all times discipline is good. And what was said, guarding this eye faculty with discipline, abide. If asked, what is the nature of these two disciplines of mind and faculty? These two are not the nature of non-revealing form. Then,
