If someone says things like that, there is no contradiction. It is like this: Two kinds of motivation are cause and time, called motivation by that time. There are two kinds of motivation: the motivation of cause and the motivation of that time, because it exists only at that time. Of the two, the first is to cause entry, and the second is to cause following. The motivation of cause is to cause entry because it projects. The motivation of that time is to cause following because it enters in accordance with the time of action. Now, what power does that action have? Even if it has been projected, if it does not have it, it will not exist, just like being dead. Then, how does a vow without mind arise? Then, for those with mind, it is very clear, so the power lies in that. For that: The consciousness to be abandoned by seeing is to cause entry. The mind to be abandoned by the path of seeing is the basis of the discrimination and examination that motivates it, therefore, consciousness is to cause entry, but since it is not present at the time of action when the mind looks outward, it is not to cause following. Therefore, does the form motivated by it also become something to be abandoned by the path of seeing? What will it become? It will harm the Abhidharma. Form does not contradict knowledge and ignorance, therefore it is not to be abandoned by the path of seeing. This aspect is to be established. Then, do the elements that arise in accordance with the mind also become something to be abandoned by the path of seeing? It will not be like that, just as it will not become good and non-good. Or it may become like that, but it cannot be said like that, because non-afflicted dharmas do not contradict knowledge and ignorance, therefore they are neither to be abandoned by the path of seeing nor not to be abandoned by the path of seeing. Therefore, the sutra speaks from the perspective of the motivation of cause, so there is no contradiction. The mind is: Abandonment by meditation is both. The consciousness of mind is both to be abandoned by the path of meditation, both to cause entry and to cause following.

Indeed. The five are those that follow. The five aggregates of consciousness are solely those that follow. Therefore, this becomes four possibilities: The mind to be abandoned by seeing is solely that which engages. The five aggregates of consciousness are solely those that follow. The consciousness of mind to be abandoned by cultivation is both. The uncontaminated is neither. Furthermore, if engaging is like this, is following also the same? This is not certain. From engaging in virtue, etc., following also becomes three kinds. From engaging in virtue, following also becomes virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. It is the same for non-virtue and neutral. Like the example of the Sage, the Buddha Bhagavan, engaging and following are the same; from virtue it is also virtue, and from neutral it is also neutral. That is virtue. Or, engaging in neutral, following also becomes virtuous. Engaging in virtue, following becoming neutral is absolutely impossible, because the power of the Buddhas does not diminish. Other schools say that Buddhas do not have a neutral mind, because the continuum of the Buddhas is always abiding, therefore virtue is a single continuum. The sutra also says: Even when the elephant walks, it abides; even when the elephant stands, it abides; even when the elephant sleeps, it abides; even when it sits, it abides. Thus it is said. The Vaibhashikas say that this is said because it does not go against their intention, but it is not that the Buddhas do not have minds born from neutral maturation, as well as those who walk, and the mind of emanation. The mind to be abandoned by cultivation is both engaging and following, all that is said should be understood as virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral.
