And the messengers of, and those who follow faith and Dharma, and Bodhisattvas, and the mothers of the Chakravartins who are in the womb, and so on. If the places are spoken of in terms of measurements, and the bodies are also spoken of in terms of years of life, then the measurements of those two are not spoken of, so they should be spoken of. Since the establishment of all of those is also a name, its boundary should also be spoken of. In order to show those accurately, the first order is started. Form, name, time, boundary, dust, letter, and instant. The boundary of the decay of form is the ultimate atom. The boundary of time is an instant. The boundary of name is a letter, like the word "ox." Furthermore, what is the measure of an instant? How long does it take for the nature of Dharma to be attained when conditions come together, or how long does Dharma travel from one ultimate atom to another? In Abhidharma, it is said that sixty-five instants pass in the time it takes for a strong man to snap his fingers. In this regard, the ultimate atom and, the atom and also likewise, iron, water, rabbit, sheep, and ox, sunbeam dust and louse and, that which arises from that and also likewise, finger joint is called seven times above. These, such as the ultimate atom, should be understood to be seven times greater from above to above. Seven ultimate atoms are an atom. Seven atoms are iron dust. Those seven are water dust. Those seven are rabbit dust. Those seven are sheep dust. Those seven are ox dust. Those seven are sunbeam dust. Those seven are lice. Seven lice are born from that, and that which is born from lice is the word called louse. Seven lice are barley. Seven barley are a finger joint. Three finger joints are called a finger, but it is not mentioned because it is famous. What is to be measured is that twenty-four fingers are a cubit. Four cubits are a bow. A word called a fathom. Those five hundred are a yojana, which is called a monastery. Five hundred bows are a yojana, and the distance from a village to about a yojana is a monastery. Eight of those are called a krosha. That yojana

Eighty "dags" are called one "yojana" (དཔག་ཚད།). The measurement of a yojana has already been explained. Now, the measurement of a year will be explained: One hundred and twenty "kshanas" (སྐད་ཅིག་མ་) make one "kshana." One hundred and twenty "kshanas" make its "kshana." Also, sixty of those make one "thang cig." Sixty "kshanas" of that make one "thang cig." A "yud tsam," a day and night, and three months, increase thirtyfold from one to the next. Thirty "thang cigs" make one "yud tsam." Thirty "yud tsams" make one day and night. Sometimes the night is long, sometimes it is short, sometimes they are equal. Thirty days and nights make one month. Including what cannot be completed, twelve months make one year. Four months of winter, four months of spring, and four months of summer; those twelve months, including what cannot be completed, make one year. For a year, one-sixth of a day's remainder is discarded. How is it discarded? After half and two months of winter, spring, and summer have passed, when half a month remains, the wise discard what cannot be completed. The measurement of a year has been explained. Now, a kalpa will be explained: There are many ways to explain a kalpa: an intermediate kalpa, a kalpa of destruction, a kalpa of formation, and a great kalpa. Among these, first, the kalpa of destruction, from the hells, from the absence of beings to the exhaustion of the vessels. From the time when the hells are empty of beings until the vessels are exhausted. How is it? There are two kinds of destruction: the destruction of beings and the destruction of realms. Again, there are two kinds: the destruction of sentient beings and the destruction of the vessels. If sentient beings die and transmigrate from the hells and are no longer born there, there is such a time. Now is the beginning of the kalpa of destruction. After this world has formed and remained for twenty intermediate kalpas, it will necessarily arise, which is called "emergence." The twenty intermediate kalpas will be destroyed, which is called "entrance." When there are no sentient beings left in the hells, in that way, the hells are destroyed, and this world is destroyed. At that time, those who have the karma to experience the suffering of the hells will be cast into other world realms, to experience the suffering of animals, to experience the suffering of hungry ghosts.
