More than twenty thousand kalpas. The lifespan of the Peak of Existence is more than twenty thousand kalpas beyond that. Thus, the measure of their lives is, in order, twenty thousand kalpas, forty thousand kalpas, sixty thousand kalpas, and eighty thousand kalpas. Here, one should understand what a kalpa is. Is it that twenty intermediate kalpas form, or is it that after formation, twenty intermediate kalpas are a great kalpa? From the gods of Clear Light onwards, it is a great kalpa; the one below it is half. The lifespan of the ranks of gods beginning with the Clear Light should be understood as a great kalpa. The lifespan of those below that, such as Great Brahma, is established by taking half of a great kalpa as a kalpa. How is it? Whether the world forms in twenty intermediate kalpas, or whether it remains in twenty intermediate kalpas after formation, or whether it is destroyed in twenty intermediate kalpas, these sixty intermediate kalpas are said to be one and a half kalpas of Great Brahma. Thus, half of a great kalpa, with forty intermediate kalpas as a kalpa, is used to explain their lifespan. The lifespan of the happy realms has been explained. Now, the bad realms will be discussed. In that regard, briefly: The six, starting with Reviving, in order, have days and nights equal to the lifespan of the desire gods. The lifespan of the six ranks of gods who enjoy in the desire realm, as explained, is equal to the days and nights of the six hells—Reviving, Black Line, Crushing, Wailing, Great Wailing, and Hot—in that order. Therefore, their lifespans are like those of the desire gods. That is, their lifespans are measured by their own days and nights, just like the lifespan of the six ranks of gods who enjoy in the desire realm. How is it? Whatever the lifespan of the retinue of the Four Great Kings is, that is one day and night in the great hell of Reviving. Therefore, a lifespan of twelve months is five hundred years there. Whatever the lifespan of the Thirty-three is, that is one day and night in the great hell of Black Line. That day and night is a thousand years of life there. Similarly, the days and nights equal to the lifespan of the gods who control others' creations are the great hell of Burning.

在婆那的寿命量为六万年之间，应对其他进行适当分配。极热地狱，大极热地狱的寿命量为中劫一半。无间地狱是中劫。畜生道的寿命不确定。畜生道，最长的是中劫。畜生道中最长的寿命是一个中劫，如龙喜、近喜、马头等。世尊说：比丘们，这八条龙是大龙，住于劫，持地。广说如是。饿鬼道是五百个月的日夜。人类的一个月是饿鬼道的一个日夜，因此寿命为五百年。 又，寒冷地狱的寿命量是多少呢？直到： 芝麻磨尽需百年， 取出一粒即告终， 此乃水疱地狱寿， 其余寿命为二十。 世尊以这些寿命量的比喻说：比丘们，譬如在此摩揭陀国，有一个八十卡里的芝麻堆，装满了芝麻。然后，有人每过一百年取出一粒芝麻，比丘们，这样逐渐地，摩揭陀国的八十卡里芝麻堆全部耗尽，我也不说这是生于速死的水疱地狱众生的寿命终结。比丘们，二十个水疱地狱就像一个水疱破裂地狱一样，从那里开始广说，又比丘们，二十个如莲花般裂开的地狱就像一个大如莲花般裂开的地狱一样。 像这样具有寿命的众生，在寿命未尽之前，会有中途死亡的情况吗？或者没有呢？一切都有，除了北俱卢洲以外都会死亡。在北俱卢洲，众生的寿命是确定的，不被邪魔所食，寿命圆满而终。其他地方是不确定的。在众生中，没有中途死亡的也很多，如一生补处菩萨住在兜率天，以及最后有者，以及佛所教导的，以及送往佛前的。

Thus it is extensively spoken. The pretas have five hundred months of days and nights. One month of humans is one day and night of the pretas, therefore the lifespan is five hundred years. Furthermore, what is the lifespan in the cold hells? Until: It takes a hundred years to grind sesame, One sesame seed taken out marks the end, This is the lifespan of the Blister Hell, The lifespan of the others is twenty. The Blessed One used these similes of lifespans, saying: Monks, for example, in this Magadha country, there is a pile of eighty kharis of sesame seeds, filled to the brim with sesame seeds. Then, someone takes out one sesame seed every hundred years, monks, in that gradual way, the eighty kharis of sesame seeds in Magadha are completely exhausted, and I would not say that this is the end of the lifespan of beings born in the rapidly dying Blister Hell. Monks, twenty Blister Hells are like one Bursting Blister Hell, and from there it is extensively spoken, and also, monks, twenty hells split like lotuses are like one great hell split like a lotus. Like this, do those beings who have a lifespan die prematurely before their lifespan is exhausted? Or do they not? All do, except for Uttarakuru, they all die. In Uttarakuru, the lifespan of beings is certain, they are not eaten by demons, and they live to the end of their lifespan. Other places are uncertain. Among beings, there are also many who do not die prematurely, such as the bodhisattva who is one birth away residing in Tushita, and the last existence being, and those taught by the Buddha, and those sent before the Buddha.
