What is the karma that is both maturation and maturation after birth? Answer: Any karma whose maturation both connects the continuum in the existence of birth and also experiences the maturation of that karma after birth, this is the karma that is both the maturation of birth and the maturation after birth. What is the karma that is neither the maturation of birth nor the maturation after birth? Answer: Any karma whose maturation neither connects the continuum in the existence of birth nor experiences the maturation of that karma after birth, this is the karma that is neither the maturation of birth nor the maturation after birth. The "Karma Establishment Treatise" has ten sections. Summary: Life exhaustion and light protection, pleasure and suffering, four bodies, four kinds of giving and eight branches, three categories, three kinds of karma divided into three categories. The naked ones are the previous actions, and the uninterrupted crimes are the last actions. There is also the case of dying from the exhaustion of life, and dying from the exhaustion of merit is not dying from the exhaustion of life. There is also the case of dying from the exhaustion of merit, and dying from the exhaustion of life is not dying from the exhaustion of merit. There is also the case of dying from both the exhaustion of life and the exhaustion of merit. There is also the case of dying without the exhaustion of life and without the exhaustion of merit. What is the case of dying from the exhaustion of life and not dying from the exhaustion of merit? Answer: For example, some people in this world reduce and accumulate the karma of life maturation, and extensively do and accumulate the karma of enjoyment maturation. Therefore, his life will be exhausted, but enjoyment will not be exhausted. This is because the exhaustion of life leads to death, but not the exhaustion of enjoyment. Therefore, this is called dying from the exhaustion of life and not dying from the exhaustion of merit. What is the case of dying from the exhaustion of merit and not dying from the exhaustion of life? Answer: For example, some people in this world reduce and accumulate the karma of enjoyment maturation, and extensively do and accumulate the karma of life maturation, therefore, his enjoyment will be exhausted, but life will not be exhausted.

It is not because fortune is exhausted when the time of death occurs due to the exhaustion of lifespan. In that case, it would be said that one dies due to the exhaustion of fortune, not due to the exhaustion of lifespan. What is it like to die when both lifespan and fortune are exhausted? It is said that, for example, some people here have diminished and accumulated the karma that ripens into lifespan, and have also diminished and accumulated the karma that ripens into fortune. Therefore, their lifespan is also exhausted, and their fortune is also exhausted. This is when death occurs due to the exhaustion of both lifespan and fortune. Thus, it is said that one dies when both lifespan and fortune are exhausted. What is it like to die when neither lifespan nor fortune is exhausted? It is said that, for example, some people here have extensively performed and accumulated the karma that ripens into lifespan, and have also extensively performed and accumulated the karma that ripens into fortune. Therefore, their lifespan is not exhausted, and their fortune is not exhausted. In this case, the exhaustion of lifespan and fortune cannot cause death. However, any one of the unfavorable conditions that have not been abandoned can cause death. Thus, it is said that one dies when neither lifespan nor fortune is exhausted. The Blessed One was dwelling in the Bamboo Grove, the Squirrels' Sanctuary, in Rajagriha. Then, the Blessed One, having dressed in the morning, taking his robe and bowl, went to Rajagriha for alms. At that time, a naked ascetic of the Kashyapa lineage also entered the activity area of Rajagriha. The naked ascetic of the Kashyapa lineage saw the Blessed One from afar and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, together with the Blessed One, he engaged in various joyful and satisfying conversations, and then said to the Blessed One: "If an opportunity is opened for the sake of requesting a prophecy, I would like to ask the Blessed One Gautama some questions." Having said this, the Blessed One said to the naked ascetic of the Kashyapa lineage: "Kashyapa, go for alms and enter the house."
