If asked, "Did you see it?" he thinks, "It is not right for the hunter to kill the deer." Then he says, "I didn't see it." For example, seeing the army of wild people, the king's army asks him, "Did you see the army of wild people?" He thinks, "It is not right for the king's army to kill the army of wild people." Then he says, "I didn't see it." For example, seeing the king's army, he asks him, "Did you see the king's army?" He thinks, "It is not right for the army of wild people to kill the king's army." Then he says, "I didn't see it." Like this, thinking that that action will not happen at all, thinking that there is no result, thinking like this, saying like this, "There is no such action, there is no ripening of the result of this action." Like this, speaking a lie born of ignorance is born of ignorance. Slander is of three kinds: born of attachment, born of hatred, and born of ignorance. What is slander born of attachment? He said: For example, here some people, because of the cause and condition of the things they want, they separate the friendship between others. Even if they don't want it themselves, they think, "Whatever beings are dear to me, cherished, liked, and satisfying, those things will become their necessities, possessions, and enjoyments." For their sake, he will separate the friendship between others. Or, others say to him, "You come here and separate the friendship of someone named so-and-so, and I will give you this and that." After being persuaded like this, because he wants those enjoyments, he will separate the friendship between others. For example, in those families of Brahmins who beg for food and are not tainted by wealth, he only gets one bowl, one piece of clothing, and a little food. He thinks, "As long as these people are together and in harmony, I will only get one bowl, one piece of clothing, and a little food from these people. I should find a way to separate these people."

Thinking that like a bird's nest will not break, like that, making means to separate them; for example, two kings are not in harmony with each other, those who live inside want the enjoyment of the outside, so they make means to separate the outsiders, the outsiders want the enjoyment of the inside, so they make means to separate those who live inside, like that, it arises from attachment. How does it arise from hatred? It is said: Like here some people, for whoever, as long as there is a universal annoyance and anger, they separate his friends. It is not like that, even if he does not have universal annoyance and anger, but because that sentient being, for those who are painful, cherished, loved, and agreeable to him, has universal annoyance and anger. He thinks like this: Let them not be able to endure for a long time, be unhappy, and not be obviously happy in their minds, thinking like that, he makes means to separate their friends, like that, it arises from hatred. How does it arise from ignorance? Brahmins say this: Those who kill sheep, kill crows, kill pigs, do work, hunters, thieves, executioners, shepherds, dog eaters, and those who live by catching hares, these people should be separated. Why? Because as long as these people live together and are in harmony, then non-merit will increase, but if they are separated, it will not be like that, saying this, thinking that that action will not bring anything, thinking that there is no result, thinking like this, saying this: This action does not exist, the result of this action will not mature, like that, it is called separation arising from ignorance, like that, it arises from ignorance. Harsh speech has three types, namely arising from attachment, arising from hatred, and arising from ignorance. What is harsh speech arising from attachment? It is said: Like here some people, because of the cause and condition of any desired utensil, universally use harsh speech to others. It is not like that, even if he himself does not want it, but he thinks like this: Sentient beings need and possess those who are painful, cherished, loved, and agreeable to me

And, thinking that it will turn into enjoyment, for the sake of those, one always uses harsh words to others. For example, through any profession such as writing, arithmetic, counting, craftsmanship, manufacturing, etc., if one is assigned to villages, towns, regions, royal palaces, etc., he covets those enjoyments and always uses harsh words to others. Or, others say to him: You come here, use harsh words to the person named this, and I will give you this and this, and will do this and this. After being instructed in this way, he covets those enjoyments and always uses harsh words to others. Such is born from attachment. What is born from hatred? Answer: For example, here some people always use harsh words to others because their minds are always full of annoyance and anger. Even if he himself does not have annoyance and anger in his mind, but because he is full of annoyance and anger towards those beloved, cherished, loved, and pleasing beings, he thinks like this: I must make those beings unable to endure for a long time, unhappy, and obviously displeased in their minds. So he always uses harsh words to those beings. Such is born from hatred. What is born from ignorance? Answer: For example, people who engage in certain professions, and ascetics mostly speak harsh words. Their householder disciples in white clothes think like this: Our teacher understands with wisdom and observes with his eyes. He speaks harsh words, so these harsh words must be good. This must be extremely good. Thinking like this, they think that that action will not bring any result, that there is no retribution, and they say: There is no such action, and the result of this action will not ripen. Saying this, such harsh words born from ignorance are born from ignorance. Frivolous speech is of three types, from attachment.
