Thus, relying on anyone such as a father, or a mother, or a teacher, or a Khenpo, or a Lama, these are the forms of being particularly superior with few words. These are the signs. These are the characteristics. Why does one possess quick eloquence but not wisdom? Answer: Because one is not skilled in fully understanding the dharmas and does not do much close examination, therefore one possesses quick eloquence but does not possess wisdom. Why does one not possess wisdom and not possess quick eloquence? Answer: Because one is neither skilled in fully understanding the dharmas nor does one do much close examination, therefore one neither possesses wisdom nor possesses quick eloquence. Why does one possess quick eloquence and also possess wisdom? Answer: Because one is skilled in fully understanding the dharmas and also does much close examination, therefore one possesses quick eloquence and also possesses wisdom. Why does one not possess retention? Answer: Because one does not properly grasp the characteristics of the dharmas that are the basis of the aggregates, therefore one does not possess retention. Why does one possess retention? Answer: Because one properly grasps the characteristics of the dharmas that are the basis of the aggregates, therefore one possesses retention. Why does one possess forgetfulness? Answer: Because some sentient beings truly take up non-virtuous dharmas, abide in and constantly cultivate and meditate on near-conduct, and do much of it, therefore after the body is destroyed and death, falling into bad migrations and bad destinies, one will be born in the hells of sentient beings. If those, having died and transmigrated from there, are born here with equal fortune to humans, they will grasp short lives here, and they will repeatedly die and transmigrate and will not be reborn, therefore they will not become proficient in memory there, therefore they possess forgetfulness. Why will one possess memory? Answer: Because some sentient beings truly take up virtuous dharmas and abide in them,

They will be born there. Those beings, having died from there, if they are born here with the same fate as humans, they will maintain longevity here. Those beings will not die and transfer again and again, and because of being born again, they will be well trained in memory there. Therefore, they will be endowed with memory. Why do afflictions become more intense? It is said: Because they constantly cultivate and meditate on thoughts of desire, thoughts of malice, thoughts of harm, the realm of desire, the realm of malice, the realm of harm, thoughts of desire, thoughts of malice, thoughts of harm, and increase them. Furthermore, any sentient beings who have more intense afflictions follow and remain after those afflictions. Therefore, afflictions become more intense. Why do afflictions not become more intense? It is said: Because they constantly cultivate and meditate on thoughts of renunciation, thoughts of non-malice, thoughts of non-harm, the realm of renunciation, the realm of non-malice, the realm of non-harm, thoughts of renunciation, thoughts of non-malice, thoughts of non-harm, and increase them. Furthermore, any sentient beings who have more intense afflictions do not follow and do not remain after those afflictions. Therefore, afflictions do not become more intense. Why does the acceptance of examination of the roots of virtue not become swift? It is said: Because they do not properly grasp the characteristics of the dharmas that are truly certain. Therefore, the acceptance of examination of the roots of virtue does not become swift. Why does the acceptance of examination of the roots of virtue become swift? It is said: Because they properly grasp the characteristics of the dharmas that are truly certain. Therefore, the acceptance of examination of the roots of virtue becomes swift.

And also abundant grass, tall trees and leaves, abundant flowers and fruits. Why is Mount Sumeru called the supreme king of mountains among all mountains? He replied: When the world was formed, the essence of cause, the essence of core, the essence of goodness, and the essence of value gathered in that direction and were formed from it. For that reason, Mount Sumeru is called the supreme king of mountains among all mountains. Why are there many trees and abundant grass in the north? He replied: When the world was formed, the wind rose separately in the north, and those winds gathered the essence of cause, the essence of core, the essence of goodness, and the essence of value in that direction, and they were formed from it. For that reason, there are many trees and abundant grass in the north. Why are some places high and some places low on this great earth? He replied: On this great earth, where the soil is fertile and large raindrops fall, those places that seep downward become low. On this great earth, those places that are not like this foundation, such as: the foundation of iron, the foundation of chalcanthite, the foundation of copper, the foundation of orpiment, the foundation of lead, the foundation of alkaline soil, the foundation of gold, the foundation of silver, the foundation of borax, and the large foundation of white clay, even if large raindrops fall, they will not seep downward, and those places become high. For that reason, some places are high and some places are low on this great earth. Why are some mountains high and some mountains low? He replied: When the world was formed, the places where the great wind and the great elements gathered were high, and the places where the small wind and the small elements gathered were low. Furthermore, those mountains where the earth element is large, washed away by large raindrops and seeping downward, become low, and those mountains that are not like this foundation, such as: the foundation of iron, the foundation of chalcanthite, the foundation of copper, the foundation of orpiment, the foundation of lead, the foundation of alkaline soil, the foundation of gold, the foundation of silver.
