To those who dislike crows, to the darkness without light, to the darkness without lamps, he gave the oil of lamps, the essence of lamps, and the vessels of lamps, as well as lamps and light, thus eliminating great darkness. Therefore, the Wheel-Turning King obtained the Jewel Minister. That Jewel Minister was wise and clear, with an upright mind, and possessed unobstructed wisdom of realization. He went to the court of the Wheel-Turning King and caused him to engage in the benefit of this life, also caused him to engage in the benefit of the next life, and also caused him to engage in the benefit of this life and the next life. He both offered the army that was suitable to offer to the Wheel-Turning King, and also bestowed the army that was suitable to bestow. He also did not cause the Wheel-Turning King's army, the fourfold assembly of the army, to feel weary and tired, nor did he cause other attendants to feel weary and tired. The Dharma nature for this is this, it should be said thus: In the darkness without light, in the darkness without lamps, the oil and essence of lamps, were generously given as alms. For parents, he created light, clarity, lamps, and flames. It is the same for relatives, and also for ascetics and Brahmins. This arising of virtuous deeds and happiness was done in other lifetimes, therefore, the maturation of karma caused the king's minister to become wise. Why did the Jewel Minister become wise, clear, with an upright mind, and possess unobstructed wisdom? He said: In the past existences, past places, past bodies, past obtained selves, past lifetimes, past, exhausted, ceased, separated, transformed, and completely exhausted states, the Jewel Minister went to and attended and revered those ascetics and Brahmins who were wise, clear, with an upright mind, proficient, and thoroughly realized. What is virtue? What is non-virtue? What is blameworthy? What is blameless? What

How to become virtuous and not become evil, thus he fully inquired and fully questioned. Having heard from those questions, he himself also practiced accordingly. Furthermore, the minister Jewel is one who contemplates and is of the nature of thought. Furthermore, whatever service is rendered to the minister Jewel, whether through the door of results or through the door of causes, he liberates them, and enters into extremely strict diligence in order to completely liberate them. Because of this reason, the minister Jewel became wise, clear, and of a willing mind. The Dharma nature of this is thus, and it should be said thus: In the past, the minister Jewel, served and revered the wise ones. Furthermore, he also contemplated, was able to practice, and was without laziness. Therefore, he became wise. Possessing intelligence, possessing diligence, and being clear. He became the one who answered the hosts of the wheel-turning king. This is the second chapter from the great treatise of Abhidharma, "The Establishment of Causes." The summary is: the king, the wheel jewel, the elephant, the horse, and the jewel, the woman, and the householder, the minister Jewel, longevity and health, good complexion, pleasing and having many children, are contained within the three aggregates. Just as a wheel-turning king is a king, so too should the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One be regarded as similar to him. In the verses of Brag Gu it is said: Brag Gu, I am the king, the supreme Dharma king. In this very center of the earth, he turns the wheel of Dharma. As it is said. Just like a wheel-turning king, possessing loving-kindness and compassion, the Muni benefits all the world, the Tathagata should be regarded in this way. Just as the wheel jewel of a wheel-turning king, so too should the Noble Eightfold Path of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One be regarded as similar to it. Through the Noble Eightfold Path, the Bhagavan abandoned all defilements and attained unobstructedness to all dharmas. The Dharma nature of this is thus, and it should be said thus: Just as the king, through the wheel jewel, completely conquered this earth. Similarly, the Buddha, through the path of
