The tops of these mountains are smooth and pleasant, but underneath there is blood-letting iron. Then those sentient beings run there, run intensely there, and run everywhere intensely there, seeking a place to dwell, seeking refuge, and seeking a way out. Those beings gather in one direction there. When it is called many hundreds, it expands. At that time, that mountain falls upon those sentient beings, and those sentient beings wail, wail intensely, and wail everywhere intensely. After wailing, wailing intensely, and wailing everywhere intensely, when they are killed and die, they disappear above. Furthermore, in the Great Burning Hell, the sentient beings that are born, and until they are universally born, it is as before. Then those sentient beings feel fear, are frightened, and despondent, their hairs stand on end, and they gather in one direction. When many hundreds, many thousands, and many hundreds of thousands gather, those mountains gather from both directions, and those sentient beings are crushed, crushed intensely, and crushed everywhere intensely. Until the time of ripening. The karmic result of those sentient beings' sins and unwholesome actions is that within that iron ground, from many yojanas of forest onwards, it is as before. Then, those sentient beings run there, run extremely there, and expand to the point of running completely extremely there. Those beings go into it. When hundreds and thousands, hundreds of thousands, enter into it, then fire arises from below, above, and the four directions where those beings are situated, causing those beings to be fearful, panicked, and to have their hair stand on end. Then, those sentient beings are fearful, frightened, and disappointed, their hair stands on end, and they gather in one direction. When it expands to the point where hundreds and thousands gather, then those fires cause the ground to burn intensely. After the ground burns intensely, it causes the forest to burn intensely. After the forest burns intensely, it causes those sentient beings to burn intensely. Then, those sentient beings burn, burn intensely, and burn completely intensely, becoming one burning mass. Even if they go to the east, they only see fire. Even if they run to the south, west, and north, they only see fire and are burned. In this way, for many years, sentient beings experience the suffering of hell until that karma is completely purified, as before. It is said thus: "Cows, goats, sheep, buffaloes, and deer, pigs, birds, and crows, likewise, by killing other lives, will be destroyed in being gathered and crushed." It is also said thus. In the sutra: "The ground and stones, wooden boxes, wheels and destruction, mountains, then valleys and forests, in being gathered and crushed, there will be eight harms." There are also many other harms such as these, and the harms of karma that are unpleasant and cause the taking of life. The Establishment of the World. The ninth chapter, the last. Sentient beings who kill, are violent and drink blood, and engage in evil deeds, will go to the Small Crying Hell. Why is the great hell of sentient beings called the Crying Hell?
