It is like a change. When a Bodhisattva renounces the world, in order to protect the precepts of the Hearers from being destroyed, he should not engage in impure conduct in any way. For example, a Bodhisattva, in order to save many sentient beings from the danger of losing their lives, from being freed from bondage, from the danger of having their hands, feet, noses, and ears cut off, and in order to protect them from having their eyes gouged out, even for the sake of his own life, a Bodhisattva would not knowingly speak any false words, but for the benefit of those sentient beings, he would speak after examining them separately. In short, a Bodhisattva sees only the benefit of sentient beings in every way, and not what is not beneficial. He himself also has a mind free from defilement, and transforms his perception solely on the basis of wishing to benefit sentient beings, knowingly speaking other words, and in speaking thus, he will not incur any fault, and will also increase many merits. For example, a Bodhisattva, relying solely on compassion for those sentient beings who are completely controlled by evil spiritual friends, thinks that these sentient beings rely on evil friends and suffer harm for a long time, and it would be bad if they could not bring benefit. Therefore, he speaks words that separate them from those evil spiritual friends as much as he can, and is very happy to be able to separate them in this way. A Bodhisattva who creates a rift in friendship in this way will not incur any fault, and will also increase many merits. For example, a Bodhisattva, for those sentient beings who have entered the wrong path and are doing unreasonable things, must by all means use methods to pull them out of the state of non-virtue and place them in the state of virtue, and therefore often severely scolds them with harsh words. In this way, even if a Bodhisattva speaks harsh words, he will not incur any fault, and his merits will also greatly increase. For example, a Bodhisattva, for those sentient beings who are fond of the sounds of dance, song, and music, and for those who are fond of kings, thieves, food, drink, prostitutes, street talk, etc., is skilled in the sounds of dance, song, and music, and in all kinds of talk, with compassionate

Māpa said: By pleasing, desiring, controlling, and making people listen with dances, songs, the sounds of music, and various stories filled with meaningless words, thereby leading them from the unwholesome to the wholesome. Thus, even if a Bodhisattva speaks meaningless words, there will be no fault, and merit will greatly increase. Accepting improper livelihoods. Bodhisattvas accept practices of making a living through improper means such as hypocrisy, flattery, solicitation, measuring by gain, and desiring to gain through gain. If they do not avoid and eliminate these actions, they will have faults and contradictions, becoming faults of afflictions. To eliminate these, if desire arises and effort is exerted, even if the mind is suppressed by strong afflictions and acts universally, there is no fault. Lightly and extremely excited, etc. If a Bodhisattva's mind is not pacified by being completely controlled by excitement, likes non-pacification, is always excited, plays everywhere, makes noise everywhere, is excited and distracted, and wants to make others excited and happy, then for that very reason, there will be faults and contradictions, becoming faults of afflictions. If done through forgetfulness, it will become a non-afflictive fault. To eliminate these, if desire arises, there is no fault, as before. If one wants to eliminate others' universal suffering by some means, there is no fault. If one wants to eliminate others' sorrow, there is no fault. To gather, subdue, or make those who like that nature consistent with oneself, doing so is without fault. If there is concern that others will be displeased with the Bodhisattva, concern about universal suffering and turning away, to show the purity of inner thought with the nature of joy, doing so is without fault. Thinking of walking in one cycle. A Bodhisattva should not abide with great joy in Nirvana, but should turn away from Nirvana and abide. Afflictions

and should not be afraid of the afflictions and near afflictions. One should not make the mind too distant from them. For example, if a Bodhisattva thinks that he will wander in samsara for countless eons and must accomplish perfect Bodhi, if he observes and speaks in this way, it will become a fault and contradictory, and it will become a fault with afflictions. Why is that? Bodhisattvas should always rely on how the Shravakas emerge from Nirvana, and make the mind weary of afflictions and near afflictions, and rely on emerging from Nirvana hundreds of thousands of times more than that, and must practice making the mind weary of afflictions and near afflictions. For example, Shravakas are only diligent for their own purpose, while Bodhisattvas are diligent for the purpose of all sentient beings, so they must make the mind accustomed to being completely free from afflictions in this way, and must accomplish it as it is. Even if he is not an Arhat, but because he is more superior than an Arhat, he has complete freedom from afflictions, so he practices things with leaks. Do not abandon non-reputation. If a Bodhisattva does not protect and eliminate the questions that will turn into his disrespectful words, and the real things that are unpleasant and will turn into bad words, it will become a fault and contradictory, and it will become a fault with afflictions. If one does not protect and eliminate non-real things, it will become a fault and contradictory, but it will not become a fault with afflictions.
