It will become with faults and contradictory, it will become the fault of affliction. If it becomes a small matter in this life, and if it causes great displeasure because of that, then there is no fault. Reproach in return for reproach, etc. If a Bodhisattva reproaches another and reproaches back, is angry and is angry back, strikes and strikes back, exposes faults and exposes faults back, then it will become with faults and contradictory, it will become the fault of affliction. Anger should be abandoned. If a Bodhisattva has done wrong to others, or suspects that he has done wrong, but has a mind of extreme remorse, and is suppressed by arrogance, does not purify with punishment according to the Dharma, and abandons it, then it will become with faults and contradictory, it will become the fault of affliction. If one does not purify with punishment because of laziness or negligence or carelessness, then it will become with faults and contradictory, but it will not become the fault of affliction. If one wants to tame with that method, wants to tame and awaken from the state of unwholesomeness, wants to place in the state of goodness, then there is no fault. If it is a heretic, then there is no fault. If one wants to have those who act in an improper and sinful way purified by punishment, then there is no fault. If someone is naturally quarrelsome and often argues, if he is purified by punishment, then he is likely to become more agitated and become hardened, then there is no fault. If one expects the other person to be patient and without extreme remorse, and is very ashamed because he has done wrong to others, and then purifies with punishment, then there is no fault. One should avoid punishing others with punishment. If a Bodhisattva has a dispute with others because of some dispute, even if he purifies with punishment according to the Dharma, but if he has a mind of extreme remorse, or has the intention of harming others, or does not listen to the teachings of punishment, then he will become with faults and contradictory, it will become the fault of affliction. If it is not with a mind of extreme remorse, but does not listen because of impatience, then

it will not become a fault with afflictions. If you want to subdue others with that method, there is no fault, and everything should be understood as before. There is no fault in taming with a stick, etc., in a way that is not in accordance with the Dharma and at the wrong time. Following the mind of anger. If a Bodhisattva has an angry thought towards others, and accepts and holds on to that thought, it will become a fault and a contradiction, and it will become a fault with afflictions. If you generate intention to abandon it, there is no fault, just as before. Gathering retinues to seek veneration. If a Bodhisattva is dominated by the desire to be served and venerated, and gathers retinues with a mind mixed with material gain, it will become a fault and a contradiction, and it will become a fault with afflictions. If you accept service and veneration with a mind free from material gain, there is no fault. Not dispelling laziness, etc. If a Bodhisattva becomes arrogant and lazy, and enjoys the pleasure of sleep, the pleasure of lying down, and the pleasure of idle talk at inappropriate times and without moderation, it will become a fault and a contradiction, and it will become a fault with afflictions. If you are sick and unable to, there is no fault. If you are tired from the road, there is no fault. There is no fault in generating intention to abandon it, and it should be understood as before. Relying on frivolous talk out of attachment. If a Bodhisattva wastes time with a mind attached to worldly and defiled talk, it will become a fault and a contradiction, and it will become a fault with afflictions. If time is wasted by speaking, it will become a non-afflictive fault. If another person is speaking and sitting, and you are also abiding in mindfulness, there is no fault in listening for a moment out of consideration for the other person. There is no fault in simply asking a question out of curiosity, or simply answering a question. Not seeking the meaning of samadhi. If a Bodhisattva starts from settling the mind, wanting to settle the mind equally, but is always filled with a distressed mind, and is oppressed by pride and does not accept instruction, it will become a fault and a contradiction.
