There is no fault in repeatedly engaging in all activities by suppressing them, as one's nature is heavily afflicted, because one has arisen with the intention and begun to exert effort, and one fully guards against its opponent, and one abides in its obstruction. One does not respect the elderly. One does not answer questions. If a Bodhisattva sees someone who is very old and possesses qualities, and who is worthy of respect in accordance with the Dharma, are they overcome by pride? Do they possess a mind of universal torment? Or even if they possess a mind of anger, they rise in a rational manner and do not yield their seat, and others speak and they truly delight in speaking universally, and are they overcome by pride alone when asked? Do they possess a mind of universal torment? Or even if they possess a mind of anger, if they do not repeat the words in a rational manner, then it becomes faulty and contradictory, and it becomes a fault of affliction. If they are not overcome by pride, and do not possess universal torment, and do not possess a mind of anger, but are indifferent, lazy, have a mind that does not indicate, or act out of forgetfulness, then it only becomes faulty and contradictory, but it does not become a fault of affliction. There is no fault in severe illness or mental disturbance. There is no fault in meeting with the awareness of awakening from sleep, speaking, speaking universally, truly delighting, and asking questions. There is no fault in exerting effort in teaching the Dharma to others, or in thoroughly analyzing argumentative speech, etc. If it is not these, there is no fault in truly delighting in others. There is no fault in listening attentively when others teach the Dharma or thoroughly analyze argumentative speech. There is no fault in not delighting in the words of the Dharma and guarding the mind of the Dharma speaker. There is no fault in taming and subduing those sentient beings by that method, arousing them from the state of non-virtue, and establishing them in the state of virtue. There is no fault in guarding the precepts within the Sangha. There is no fault in guarding the minds of many others. One does not regard guests as one's own, and the food in the homes or other monasteries or other homes of other Bodhisattvas.

Am I, when called for thirst, clothing, and other necessities, overcome by pride? Do I possess a mind of pervasive torment? Even if I possess a mind of anger, if I do not go and do not take ownership of the call, it becomes sinful and contradictory, turning into a fault of affliction. If I am not overcome by pride, do not possess pervasive torment, and even if I do not possess a mind of anger, if I do not fulfill it due to laziness and sloth, it becomes a non-afflictive fault. If I am sick and unable, or if my mind is disturbed, there is no fault. If the place is far away, or if there is danger on the road, there is no fault. If I wish to tame and subdue through that method, and wish to uplift from the state of non-virtue and place it in the state of virtue, there is no fault. If I have previously made a promise to others, there is no fault. If I constantly strive for the virtuous side, and do not go in order to protect against obstacles to the virtuous side, there is no fault. If I do not go for fear of losing the opportunity to listen to meaningful Dharma that I have not heard before, there is no fault. Just as with listening to the Dharma, it should be understood similarly regarding thoroughly establishing meaningful speech. If I am called with hostile intent, there is no fault. If many others are guarding against pervasive torment, there is no fault. If I am protecting the monastic discipline, there is no fault. Do not accept gold and the like. From other Bodhisattvas, having obtained various kinds of abundant and excellent treasures such as gold, silver, jewels, pearls, and lapis lazuli, and being offered due to opportune timing, do I possess a mind of pervasive torment? If, due to possessing a mind of anger, I cannot accept and abandon them, it becomes sinful and contradictory, and because of abandoning sentient beings, it becomes a fault of affliction. If I do not accept due to laziness and sloth, it becomes sinful and contradictory, but it does not become a fault of affliction. There is no fault in mental disturbance. If I see that accepting it will lead to attachment, there is no fault. If I fear that I will regret it later, there is no fault.
