He refuted. The so-called "pimples appear on the rice" means "it has past karma" like rice. The so-called "it can also produce fruit in the next life" is like pimples, because it becomes the cause of producing great suffering. If someone doubts, like this, for other things, will there be a fault like pimples appearing on rice? Therefore, it is said "past" and so on. The so-called "whatever happened before" refers to whatever happened and was established in the previous stage. The so-called "later non-existence" refers to the synonym of not existing and not being in the past stage after the present stage. This is to explain that the definition of past etc. should only be established by the power of reason like what happened before etc., not like the destruction of things etc., because that is not allowed for things that only exist in their own nature. How it is unreasonable to become an entity like the past etc., as widely argued in other treatises such as the Hundred Verses, will not be elaborated here because it will become cumbersome. Then, through "if" etc., this shows the contradiction with the teachings of the Sarvastivadins. The meaning of the verse is easy to understand. Here, "the root will not be wasted" refers to this. What does "will not be wasted" mean? Through "if" etc., the teacher answered the contradiction by means of reproach. The synonym of "there will be no fruit" is that they have the ability to produce fruit, not without ability. Why? Therefore, the latter half explains that the latter half of the verse is the latter half, that is, "gathering" and so on. Therefore, it is explained that the power of karma will not be wasted. If not, if you want to express the existence of the established past nature, then only through the first half can its meaning be understood, so the second half will become meaningless. "Waste."

If the meaning of the word "transformation" is said to be "it will not become without fruit," then what does that mean? Therefore, it is said, "Even if actions take a long time," and so on. How do these actions themselves produce fruit? This needs to be examined, and it should be combined with the pause in the middle. Because for the examination of producing fruit, there is no other possibility. Like seeds of rice, etc., only two types of examination are mentioned through "like," etc. Among these two types of examination, the first one is without fault, because it is only one's own view. Therefore, in the second way, faults are pointed out through "if," etc. Through the statement "the teaching that fruit is produced by what is not destroyed," it is shown that it harms momentary destruction. Through "these," etc., it is an incorrect answer to the Vaibhashikas. This shows the following meaning: Because of what causes actions to produce fruit without being destroyed, thereby harming momentariness, therefore, by explaining the nature in various ways, destruction is not real. However, due to the lack of the occasion for action, fruit is not produced. Therefore, it is said to be destruction, so where is the harm? "Why," etc., is the refutation spoken by the teacher, because it exists in the nature without defects. His intention is that it is unreasonable not to produce fruit. Through "already thrown," etc., it is the answer to the Vaibhashikas. Throwing here refers to what exists in the entity of the cause that produces future fruit. The teacher said, "Other fruits similar to this," etc. It means that even if the fruit has already been thrown, since the nature of producing fruit has not been destroyed, why not throw other fruits similar to this? Saying "similar to this" refers to throwing similar fruits, indicating that not all causes produce all fruits. Through "how does fruit arise temporarily," etc., it is the teacher himself.

This is an explanation made to refute. "Allowing to arise," etc., are the Vaibhashikas showing the characteristic of projection. "Then," etc., is the teacher showing the error of the characteristic. Among them, the final moment when an Arhat completely passes away from suffering, that is, the final one, does not project a result because it does not possess the cause of acting together. Furthermore, the result of karma that is obstructed by non-discriminating cessation also does not project. Therefore, it is said, "Non-discriminating cessation," etc. Because other causes are not complete, the result does not arise and is exhausted. Isn't it the case that the final, etc., has already been projected? If you ask, how can it be said that it does not project a result? It is not so, because in this way, even if other causes are not complete, it is believed that it has the ability to project it, and the occurrence of a result like that is not seen at all, so that is possible. It simply does not have the ability to project, so what will happen? Therefore, it is said, "From the very beginning," etc., meaning that because the time for other things to act has passed, things are established as being destroyed, not entirely because of their own nature. The final, etc., also does not have the time to act, so how can it be destroyed? Therefore, it is said, "Therefore," etc., to conclude. "Having such a nature" is synonymous with "having such an aspect." "Then how is it?" This is what the Vaibhashikas say. "By what," etc., is the teacher showing the characteristic of projection as it is, without error. "By what" is the cause of the nature of karma. "Nourishing the seed of the result" means to examine the seed related to the result that exists within. Here too, the seed that did not exist before arises, this is not projection. So what is it? It should be known that it only nourishes the seed that exists in the stream of consciousness. If it were not so, then the establishment of the types of Shravakas, etc., would not be determined as different streams.
