Doubting that someone would ask, "How does the term 'gesture expression' arise?", therefore, it is said, "the cause of arising in another place," and so on. The so-called "cause of arising in another place" is the term for the cause of the arising of actions in another place. What is that? Therefore, it is said, "other dharma," which is the term for "other nature" and "other thing." And from what cause does that arise? Therefore, it is said, "having the cause of the distinction of mind," the distinction of mind being the mind that is completely controlled by desire. In which other dharma does that cause exist? That other dharma is the one having the cause of the distinction of mind. Where does that which has become like that arise? Therefore, it is said, "on the hand, etc." That is also called "walking," and also called "gesture expression," meaning that that other dharma of such a gesture itself is called "walking" or "gesture expression" in the world, and apart from that, there is nothing else that causes arising in another place and other things that become its result. Then, through "..." etc., the teacher refutes other dharma. It means that if that other dharma belongs to the form aggregate, because the form aggregate is to be seen, that which belongs to it will also be seen like color. But that is not the case, therefore it is shown that it does not exist. What was previously said, "from the knowable that is the object of a clear and distinct measure," etc., should also be cited here. If, because of attachment, others say, even if it is not the object of grasping, that other dharma exists even if it is not the object of grasping, because of the doubt that someone would say this, it is said, "if not seen," etc. Because it makes others know, it is called gesture expression, then how does it make others know? If there is an object of grasping, then it can be known. When it does not have an object of grasping, how does it make others know? That is what is thought. Furthermore, you also use measure to determine its existence.

Just as there is no distinction, this other way of understanding should also be mentioned, the concluding word of how the other dharma exists. If others think that the other dharma is beyond the senses, therefore it cannot be understood by direct perception, but it can be inferred from the result, thinking that it can be understood, in order to show this, so they said "If it is not like this" and so on. It is said like this, if the other dharma does not exist, then without it, how can the body arise in another place? Therefore, it should be admitted that there is another dharma that is the cause of the body arising in another place. The argument is, if something exists, then something will arise, then this cause is prior, for example, if there is a seed, then a sprout will arise, the body arising in another place is also, if there is another dharma, then it will arise. Because that which has a prior cause, only because it exists will it arise, so the rising sun theorists think it is a reason of nature. Like this, others have established the measure, and here the teacher, in order to show that the reason is not established, said "The wind element arising from the difference of mind" and so on. It is said like this, the cause that arises if it exists, that is, the prior existence of other dharmas, it can be established at any time, if it exists, it will arise, if it is only established, then it is possible. However, this is not established, because only the wind element arising from the difference of mind causes the body to arise in another place. Like this, with "in another place" and so on, the scripture is established with names that match the meaning. If you ask "What will happen to grass and leaves, etc.?", then connect to "the cause of arising in another place". This shows that others have a wrong understanding of the wind element, you think that the cause of things arising in another place is the wind element, but for grass and leaves, etc., you do not have the wind element arising from the difference of your mind, that's what you think.

English

What is meant by 'from the element of wind that causes movement and propulsion, and encounter'? It is connected to the statement 'grass and leaves, etc., arise in other places.' This is the teacher's response. Among them, 'causing movement and propulsion' means moving, which is a synonym for using a dwelling in some way. 'Propulsion' means striking, which is a synonym for contacting things with force. The element of wind that arises from these two is called that. This is a summary of the words. The meaning is, if we say that in other places, the cause of all arising is only the element of wind arising from the difference of mind, then how would grass and leaves, etc., change and arise, causing confusion? However, how should it be said to exist? In some cases, it is the element of wind arising from the difference of mind, and in others, it is encountering things like causing movement. Therefore, this shows that there is no contradiction. Alternatively, 'from what' means the root is from the element of wind. 'Wanting to produce going' means wanting to produce the going of the nature of other dharmas. 'Only from that' means only from the element of wind that produces other dharmas. 'What is to be done by examining the going of undifferentiated abilities?' For going that is not differentiated by measure and whose ability, i.e., function, is not determined, it is called that. What is to be done by examining that? It is only a synonym for unnecessary. Second Chapter. So, 'the cause of the body arising in other places,' etc., is to refute other dharmas, and also because the Sunrise School, etc., think of other aspects, that is, saying: If the nature of other dharmas is not established, therefore it cannot become discernible, then the element of wind arising from the difference of mind itself, as the cause of the body arising, is well known to us, therefore will it become discernible? This shows this point. How it cannot become discernible, etc., is the refutation made by the teacher.
