In this way, external objects are unreasonable. Therefore, due to the complete maturation of the habit of elaboration, consciousness itself appears as the aspect of objects such as form. For example, it should be acknowledged like the consciousness in a dream. In this way, the objects of the five aggregates of consciousness are blocked. To block the object of mind consciousness, it is also said, "Feelings and so on." Feelings and so on belong to the three times. Among them, those that are past and future do not generate the consciousness of their own aspect, because the past has ceased and the future has not arisen. What has ceased and what has not arisen are not substantially existent, how can they generate consciousness? If someone thinks that the present ones can generate consciousness, therefore it is said, "Even the present ones do not generate the present consciousness." Even the present feelings and so on do not generate the consciousness of their own aspect. Why is that? Because they do not exist at the time of arising. Here it is said, "They do not exist at the time of arising." Then, do they generate at the time of arising, or do they generate at the time of being arisen? If you analyze it in this way, then at the time of arising, feelings and so on do not exist. Therefore, because they do not exist, how can they generate? When feelings and so on have arisen, consciousness has also arisen in that aspect. Therefore, because there is no function for it, they are not its cause. Therefore, the object of mind consciousness is also established as empty. In this way, because there is no object to be grasped, consciousness will not become the grasper. The characteristic of not having a grasper and a grasped establishes the selflessness of phenomena. The selflessness of persons is shown by showing that consciousness is dependently originated. Like this, consciousness exists because it is dependently originated. If someone thinks that persons are also dependently originated, then at that time they will become impermanent. Thinking of impermanence as "I" is meaningless, because it is the same as the body. If it is not dependently originated

If that were the case, it would become permanent. The permanent cannot perform virtuous and non-virtuous actions, nor can it enjoy their results, because it is immutable. To say that it depends on co-action is not accepted because there is no differentiation. Therefore, what is the use of thoroughly investigating something that has no function at all? The selflessness of the person can also be established. This has already been explained many times by previous teachers, so it is not explicitly stated here. Here, grammarians and others show the refuter, which is "others say" and so on. If the self and phenomena do not actually exist, then at that time it is not permissible to establish the apprehended aspect of consciousness as it. Like this establishment, if there are three things, it will change, and if any of the three does not exist, it will not change. What are the three? It is said, "the reality of the object" and so on. If the reality of the object exists, if there are some other things similar to the object, and there is also something similar to both the object and what is similar to it. If there is anything similar, then at that time it is established. Here, an example is given, such as "non-existent things" and so on. Non-existent things exist, if the Brahmin boy is similar to fire, and the common attribute of both fire and the Brahmin boy is either yellowness or sharpness, then the world will establish the Brahmin boy as fire. If, like that, the self and phenomena that have become consciousness are established, then at that time the self and phenomena become actually existent, otherwise they will not be established, this is the view of the former party. The proponent, in order to refute the example from the beginning, said, "Like this, establishing the Brahmin boy as fire" and so on. For this example of comparing the Brahmin boy to fire, is it the genus fire itself, or is it the essence of fire that is established as the Brahmin boy? That is to say, it will be shown whether it is the universal of fire or the own-character of fire that is being established? If that is the case, what fault is there? Therefore, it is said, "Neither establishment exists," both views.
