Yes, this is to supplement the fundamental meaning of the verses. Fearing that the other party would seize upon a flaw in the wording, it was said, "If everything is only consciousness," and so on. If, in terms of the true meaning, everything is only consciousness. If there is no agent or other creator apart from consciousness, then how do various conceptualizations arise from the root consciousness without any agent blessing it and without any action? Thinking this, the proponent of the established doctrine said, "all-seed consciousness," and so on. That is, the alaya consciousness itself, through the power of each other, goes on to become such and such, and without an agent or action, those various conceptualizations arise from it. This is the concise meaning. In order to explain the meaning of the branches of the commentary, it was said, "It has the ability to generate all dharmas," and so on. In this way, the alaya consciousness has the ability to generate all dharmas, and therefore it is called all-seed consciousness. In order to explain the necessity of stating the two distinctions, it was said, "Consciousness is," and so on. In this way, there is also consciousness that is not all-seed consciousness, called entering consciousness. Therefore, in order to distinguish it from that, this distinction of "all-seed" was made. Some people think that, apart from consciousness, the chief and nature, etc., are also all-seed, therefore, in order to exclude them, consciousness was mentioned. In order to give another explanation of this itself, or because there is ambiguity in one word, it was said, "Or because there is ambiguity in one word," and so on. For example, in the term "blue lotus," both words are ambiguous, so it becomes a distinction and a basis for distinction. But this is not the case in all situations. In some cases, although one word is ambiguous, it still becomes a distinction and a basis for distinction, such as "earth substance" and "water substance." In this way, water itself is not mistaken for substance, but the distinction "substance" is still mentioned. Similarly, here too, all-seed is not mistaken for consciousness, but consciousness is still used to
