It is not desired to determine each as the immediately preceding condition. Thus, for the arising of eye consciousness, the six consciousnesses also gradually act as the object of the immediately preceding condition. Similarly, these six are gradually accepted as the immediately preceding condition up to the mind consciousness. Therefore, when encountering the objective condition, even from a single immediately preceding condition, two or more consciousnesses can arise, without contradiction. If this is not desired, then the immediately preceding condition is also uncertain, and even if the five simultaneously encounter the objective condition, only one consciousness will arise. It must be stated what reason there is for saying that all five will not arise. Thus, there is no definite reason to be seen for this. Therefore, if there is an object, either all five consciousnesses will arise, or none will arise. Also, for the sake of another occasion, now to say this, etc., what is said is the meaning of inquiry, and that meaning is easy to understand, so it is not explained. Having stated the conclusion, the arising of mind consciousness is, etc. Except for the unconscious, etc., mind consciousness arises at all times, which is the brief meaning. To show the meaning of the word, 'always' is, etc., but it is not explained because it is easy to understand. In order to prevent where mind consciousness is not desired, this general statement is made, etc. Mind consciousness at all times

Whatever obstructs the mind and mental factors that arise within them is called non-perception. Whoever cultivates the attainment of non-perception in the desire realm is born among the gods of non-perception. Whoever cultivates the attainment of cessation in the desire realm is born at the peak of existence. The non-perceiver knows nothing and exists without purpose. If one wonders what the two attainments are, it is said that the two attainments are, etc., but it is not explained because it is easy to understand. If one wonders what the attainment of non-perception is, it is said that the attainment of non-perception is, etc. The yogi who is free from attachment to the third dhyana but not free from attachment to the higher realms, through mental engagement that is preceded by perception, whatever obstructs the consciousness and the mental factors that are concordant with it, is called the attainment of non-perception in this scripture. In order to show how to accomplish it completely, it is said, "Because it will be obstructed by this, it is obstruction," which has already been explained by itself. If one wonders what such a "that" is, it is said that it is also the consciousness together with the concordant, etc. Whatever obstructs the arising of consciousness together with its retinue is called obstruction. That is some difference in state, but it is not a substance as some have interpreted it. Is not the one-pointedness of mind born from virtue called attainment? If the one who obstructs the mind and mental factors is called attainment, how should that be explained? Therefore, it is said that attainment is also under the mind, etc. Thus, attainment is under the mind, obtaining a state that is not contrary to the arising of other minds. Therefore, the one who obstructs the mind and mental factors is called attainment. In order to show the second point, it is said, etc. The yogi who is free from attachment to the sphere of nothingness, abiding in peace, through mental engagement that is preceded by perception, the form of consciousness

That which is known together with its retinue, and which prevents the mind of afflictions, is called the samadhi of cessation. The so-called 'preceding the notion of peaceful abiding' means first having the thought that 'this abiding is peaceful,' and after having such a thought, one later enters into samadhi; this is its definition. This is also to show the existence of the imputed. It is also said, 'This is like the samadhi of non-perception,' etc. Just as the samadhi of non-perception is established in the different stages of the ground, so too is this established in it; this is its definition. One might wonder, what is mindless sleep like? Therefore, it is said, 'Mindless sleep is,' etc. Like this, when one is overwhelmed by deep sleep, during that time, consciousness does not arise; therefore, it is called mindless. One might wonder, what is mindless fainting, and on what is it established? Therefore, it is said, 'Mindless fainting is,' etc. Due to sudden fainting, or due to the elements being imbalanced, during that time, consciousness does not arise, and the unbalanced body becomes imbalanced; this unbalanced state is called mindless fainting. In order to conclude and show, it is said, 'Apart from these five states,' etc., which is the meaning of conclusion, and because it is easy to understand, it is not explained. In order to ask about consciousness, it is said, 'If that is so, the non-perceiver,' etc. When one is separated from the non-perceiver, etc., if that yogi does not suddenly die, then from where does his consciousness arise? Some proponents say that it arises from the alaya-consciousness, etc. The consciousness that arises from non-perception, etc., arises from the alaya-consciousness. Like this, the alaya-consciousness possesses the seeds of all consciousnesses. In order to connect with the following text, it is said, 'To what does consciousness transform,' etc., the meaning of which is easy to understand.
