Furthermore, this is said to be "afflictions" and so on, the meaning of which is merely a connection of words. This is to show the existence of imputation, so it is said "imputed to the part of ignorance" and so on, the meaning of which is easy to understand, so it is not explained in detail. If you ask what is excitement? The answer is: Excitement is the mind that is not calm. Why? The answer is: Calm is quiescence, and so on. Thus, the sound of calmness refers to quiescence. That which is inconsistent with it is not calm. It is in accordance with desire, remembering previous laughter, joy, play, etc., which is the cause of the mind not being calm. The phrase of nature is also the cause of non-pacification, so it is said that non-pacification is called agitation. In order to show its function, it is said that it has the function of interrupting quiescence and so on. Quiescence is samadhi, which can obscure it. If you ask what is disbelief? The answer is: Disbelief is not believing in karma, etc., and becoming a dharma that is contrary to faith, which is disbelief. Why is it the opposite of faith? The answer is: Faith is, and so on. Its meaning is only a connection of words. Disbelief is the opposite of it, and so on, which is also easy to understand, so it is not explained in detail. In order to show its function, it is said that it has the function of being the basis of laziness. In order to eliminate it, it is said that disbelief is because there is no desire for practice, and so on. Thus, as long as one does not believe in certain things and does not generate desire, then the desire for practice will not arise, so the function of this is the cause of laziness. If you ask what is laziness? The answer is: Laziness is not rejoicing in virtue the mind, and so on. In order to eliminate it, it is said that relying on the pleasure of sleeping, leaning, and lying down, belonging to the part of ignorance, the mind does not rejoice in the good deeds of body, speech, and mind, which is laziness. That is to say, relying on the pleasure of sleeping, leaning, and lying down, belonging to the part of ignorance, the body, etc.

Regarding laziness, whatever does not generate joy in virtuous actions, to explain its function, it is said, "This is," etc., which obstructs the aspect of goodness. Regarding what is carelessness, it is said, "Carelessness is," etc. If one is controlled by attachment, etc., the mind does not turn back from afflictions such as attachment, nor does it become accustomed to virtuous actions that are the antidote to attachment, etc. Attachment, anger, ignorance, and laziness are labeled as carelessness. To explain its function, it is said, "This is," etc., which is the cause of the increase of non-virtue and the decline of virtue. Regarding what is forgetfulness, it is said, "Forgetfulness is," etc. Whatever mindfulness is associated with afflictions is forgetfulness. To explain its function, it is said, "This is," etc., which is not explained because it is easy to understand. Regarding what is distraction, it is said, "Distraction is," etc. To dispel it, it is said, "By this, the mind is distracted in various ways," etc. By this, the mind is distracted towards many objects, so it is mental distraction. To show the existence of imputation, it is said, "Those attachment, anger, and ignorance," etc. For those attachment, etc., that lead the mind from the object of meditative concentration to external objects, how should distraction be established in accordance with them? To explain its function, it is said, "This is," etc. Because there is no freedom from attachment in mental distraction, it obstructs freedom from attachment. Regarding what is non-awareness, it is said, "Non-awareness is," etc. Wisdom associated with afflictions is called non-awareness. To show wisdom associated with afflictions, it is said, "That is the conduct of body, speech, and mind," etc. With wisdom, regarding coming and going, etc., the conduct of body, speech, and mind arises unknowingly, which is called wisdom associated with afflictions, that is, non-awareness.
