Having spoken, "What is the true essential instruction?" and so on. Deceit hinders proper attention, hindering the attainment of the true essential instruction. Thus, deceit can hinder the attainment of proper attention, hindering the attainment of the true essential instruction. Like this, those who are without deceit, the lamas will bestow upon them the true oral transmission. Fourth Chapter. If one wants to know what pride is, it is said, "Pride is" and so on. Whatever is the particular joy of being especially attached to one's own perfections, the mind being controlled by oneself, that is pride. If one wants to know what one's own perfections are, it is said, "Lineage and being without illness" and so on. Whatever is most excellent, such as lineage, that is one's own perfection. If one wants to know what great joy is, it is said, "Great joy is" and so on. A certain distinction of joy is called great joy. If one wants to know what complete grasping is like, it is said, "By what distinction of joy" and so on. By what distinction of joy the mind is controlled by oneself, and by the distinction of joy that does not find entry into actions of virtue, the mind is controlled by oneself, therefore, becoming completely seized, that is the mind being completely grasped. In order to show the function, it is said, "This is" and so on. The function of this is the very cause of all afflictions and near afflictions. Like this, from pride arises all afflictions and near afflictions. If one wants to know what harming is, it is said, "Harming is" and so on. In order to liberate from it, by various means such as killing, binding, beating, and threatening, it is said, "By" and so on. By various means such as killing and binding, harming sentient beings, that is harming. If one wants to know what injuring is like, it is said, "By this killing and binding etc. injuring sentient beings" and so on. Because it is easy to understand, it is not explained. In order to show that this is imputed, it is said, "That is belonging to the category of anger" and so on. This belongs to the category of anger, without compassion for sentient beings.

Shamelessness and callousness are its categories. To show the function, it is said that it has the function of harming sentient beings in various ways, etc., that meaning is merely a combination of words. If asked, what is shamelessness? The answer is, shamelessness is not adorning oneself because of faults. To dispel it, it is said that knowing that it is not part of those actions, etc., for the evil deeds that one wants to do, knowing that those are inappropriate and not part of oneself, yet knowingly not avoiding the faults, that is shamelessness, this is the opposite of shame. Knowing is also the meaning of knowing and doing. If asked, what is impudence? The answer is, impudence is, etc. To dispel it, it is said that these are contrary to the world and the Dharma, etc., whatever one starts to do, knowing that these are contrary to the world and the Dharma, yet not avoiding doing evil deeds, that is impudence, this is the opposite of shame. To show the function of these two, it is said that these two are, etc., the function of these two is to be the companion of all afflictions and near afflictions. To show the imputed existence, it is said that desire and hatred, etc. The cause of the arising of all inappropriate things is desire, hatred, and ignorance, these two are established on them, without their own cause. To this it is also said that desire and hatred cannot arise simultaneously, so how can they be established in a harmonious way? If asked, what is lethargy? The answer is, lethargy is, etc., whatever the mind is not suitable for work and is dull, that is lethargy. If asked, what is dullness? The answer is, the nature of dullness is, etc. The nature of dullness is dullness itself, like this, if it is associated with it, the mind will become dull because of foolishness, therefore it cannot understand the object, so it is called dullness.
