It is said, "Staying in this," and so on. As long as the harm does not cease, then towards sentient beings and non-sentient objects, whatever arises as mental torment from the mind, that is designated as anger. Its function is to serve as the basis for punishments such as cutting off with penalties. "Towards sentient beings and non-sentient objects" means objects such as living beings, poison, weapons, and thorns, and so on. "Cutting off with penalties" refers to imposing fines. "Etc." refers to killing and binding, and so on. If one wonders what holding a grudge is, it is said, "Holding a grudge is," and so on. To dispel it, it is said, "After anger," and so on, that after anger has subsided, one thinks, 'I am such a person, yet he harmed me in this way; if I do not take revenge on him, I will not be counted among the living, not even considered a person.' Like this, the mind forms a knot, and such a resentful attitude does not let go, but continuously arises, that is called holding a grudge. To show its function, it is said, "This is the function of being the basis of intolerance." Its function is the very cause of intolerance. To show intolerance, it is said, "Towards harm, how can one not think like this," and so on, answering that wanting to inflict harm is called intolerance. To show its imputed existence, it is said, "This is just like anger," and so on. Because it is easy to understand, it is not explained. If one wonders what concealment is, it is said, "Concealment is," and so on. To dispel it, it is said, "Desire, hatred, and fear, etc." It is said, "Exerting desire, etc.," meaning that the speaker should not be swayed by desire, etc., but should be a speaker who intends to benefit the object of speech; such a speaker, knowing the time to speak, then says, 'You did such a thing,' and if it is said, it belongs to the category of ignorance. The arising of concealing faults, that is called concealment. If one wonders how this belongs to the category of ignorance, it is said, "Concealment is indeed belonging to the category of ignorance." Like this, concealment is the concealment of

It is a form. Therefore, it belongs to the category of ignorance. To explain this function, it is said that this is regret, etc. To dispel it, it is said that this is the nature of Dharma, etc. This is the nature of beings or all phenomena. Like this, regret arises for those who conceal sins. Regret necessarily exists simultaneously with unpleasant feelings. Therefore, if it exists simultaneously with unpleasant feelings, it becomes unbearable. If someone asks what harsh speech is, it is said that harsh speech is abusive language, etc. To explain harsh speech, it is said that harsh speech is abusive language, etc. In the manner of revealing faults, whether it is severing affection or being forceful, that is harsh speech. Forceful means unpleasant. To explain the act of scolding itself, it is said that the behavior and manner of scolding, etc. This mental factor is the nature of scolding, therefore it is scolding. Its essence is scolding itself. Therefore, this mental factor is like eating harsh speech, so harsh speech is used to express the meaning of scolding. To explain that this is an imputed existence, it is said that this is also anger, etc. Anger and resentment come first, and are the cause of anger and resentment. The rest is not explained because it is easy to understand. To explain this function, it is said that this is the function of generating verbal misconduct, etc. It is not explained because it is easy to understand. To explain the reason for another function, it is said that it is difficult to associate with someone who possesses it, etc. Like this, if someone possesses scolding, it is difficult to live together, therefore scolding is the function of being unbearable. If someone asks what jealousy is, it is said that jealousy is, etc. To dispel it, it is said that because of being particularly attached to gain and respect, etc. Because of being particularly attached to one's own gain and respect, one observes the differences in others' gain and respect, as well as the qualities of lineage and discipline, etc., and it belongs to the category of hatred.
