The objects and appearances of pleasure and suffering in speech are clear. If the objects and appearances of the Alaya-consciousness are completely unclear, how can it be associated with these two? Those who think that desire and hatred lie dormant in it are thinking that they are unrelated. All pleasure and suffering are associated, so desire and hatred do not lie dormant in them. Because there are good and neutral, and undefiled pleasure. Similarly, suffering also has good and neutral. If these are not associated with desire and hatred, how can all pleasure and suffering be latent with desire and hatred? Now, in order to show that it is itself neutral, it is said, "It is un-obscured and neutral." It should be understood that the Alaya-consciousness is un-obscured and neutral. This is related to the Alaya-consciousness, because this is its occasion. In order to show the result of grasping the two differences, it is said, "Because of saying un-obscured" and so on. Saying un-obscured is to distinguish it from the obscured. Saying neutral is to distinguish it from good and non-good. For example, the Alaya-consciousness is not good, because those who have cut off the roots of good also have it. Here, it should not be taken as non-good either, because non-good dharmas are not un-obscured. If you think, why is this not un-obscured? It is said, "By the mind" and so on. For example, it is not obscured by the sudden near-afflictions of the mind, therefore it is called un-obscured. Un-obscured means not being defiled, or not being covered. Here, the reason for neutral is mentioned: "Because it is a result" and so on. For example, this Alaya-consciousness is the nature of its own result. Therefore, the result is unrecorded, because the result does not produce other results.

Therefore, it is called unindicated. Because it is the nature of Vipāka (fully ripened), it is not indicated as good or non-good. Therefore, it is also called unindicated. In order to show that all the investigations made on the Ālayavijñāna (storehouse consciousness) are also shown on Sparśa (touch) etc., it is said that Sparśa etc. are also the same. In order to liberate that, it is said that Ālayavijñāna is uniquely Vipāka etc., that meaning is the exhaustion of words. In order to practice Sparśa etc., it is said that Sparśa etc. are also like that, but it is not said because it is easy to understand. Why is it thought that Sparśa etc. are also the same as Ālayavijñāna? Those who are the same as Vipāka are not Vipāka, and those who have not completely cut off the object and aspect cannot cut off the object and aspect, therefore it is said, but it is not said because it is easy to understand. It should also be said in other places that those who are the same as Sparśa etc., those who are the same as Ālayavijñāna, are not not the same as Sparśa etc. Thus, those who are the same as Upekṣā (equanimity), those who are the same as Ālayavijñāna, are not the same as other feelings. Thus, those who are the same as Avyākṛta (unspecified), those who are the same as Ālayavijñāna, cannot be good or non-good. Confused about whether Ālayavijñāna is permanent or impermanent, some people ask: Is Ālayavijñāna the only one that exists at the edge of Saṃsāra (cyclic existence) without being destroyed? Or is it a continuous stream of moments following Saṃsāra? The proponents say: It does not exist uniquely without difference etc. It is said that Ālayavijñāna does not uniquely and without difference follow until Saṃsāra, but follows in one moment. The so-called unique and without difference

The sound of non-difference also tends to mix, therefore "one" is said. The sound of "only" also appears in words of other meanings, therefore "non-difference" is said. Therefore, it enters into the indestructible self-nature, and that is how it is shown. If you ask how to enter, it says: Like a constantly flowing river. This means that the Alaya consciousness flows like a river. In order to show the one and only non-different thing, it says "that is", etc., that is, it is said to be the Alaya consciousness itself, because it is easy to understand, so it is not explained. In order to show the constant self-nature, it says "for it, constant is" and so on. The constant arising of cause and effect without interruption is called constant. In order to show the self-nature of the river, it says "the collection of rivers" and so on, that is, the continuous flow of water before and after the collection of rivers is called a river. After explaining the meaning of the words in this way, in order to show the meaning of the summary, it says "like a river grass and" and so on, that is, just as a river pushes grass and so on to flow, the Alaya consciousness has the habits of merit and non-merit and immovable karma, and also collects touch and so on, and constantly arises without interruption. In addition, it is asked what is constantly produced in that way, that is, it must be said when the Alaya consciousness that is constantly produced in that way will stop. The sectarian says that it stops when the Arhatship is attained, etc. That is, it will stop when the Arhatship is attained. Because they do not understand the Arhatship, they ask what the Arhatship is. The sectarian says, what is it that is called an Arhat, that is, what dharma does this being have that is called an Arhat, and that is called the Arhatship. Others do not understand that dharma either, so they ask what it has, etc., that is, what dharma does it have that is called an Arhat? The sectarian says, knowing extinction and so on, that is, extinction
